SKS is still in service in Ukraine! Look this!

That's right, publicly degrading prisoners of war (like parading them thru town) is against the Geneva convention and is in fact a war crime.

Russia does not care about the value of life nor rules. The KGB was proud to have broken every rule in the Geneva convention. And their former leader enjoys being called the czar now.

I see that none of the SKS is tacticool stocks. I guess the old fellas on here were right keep it stock, best for the battle field.

Their hands are bound. Interesting that they are being referred to as POWs, or is that someone else's word choice? I mention this because it is my understanding that the hands of POWs are not to be bound, nor are they to be paraded and subject to public ridicule. Although, having said that, I know the Soviets did parade German prisoners during WWII.

Correct; part of Art 13 of the Third Geneva convention reads "Likewise, prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity."

Parading them through the streets would certainly be a violation of that.

Restraining or binding hands is generally no problem, as long as it's done humanely and not as punishment. Detainees in Afg would routinely be zipcuffed, with blacked out goggles & ear defenders put on them; nothing wrong with that as long as it's done for security reasons and not as punishment. IE you couldn't leave someone like that for days, but securing them for a few hours while they are evacuated back through the system to custody is no problem. Restraining the hands of prisoners who have long since been disarmed and are firmly under the control of dozens of armed soldiers seems needlessly humiliating, and unnecessary, but I don't think it crosses the line into war crime.

That and the fact that they aren't bound...

The SKS was never dumped in favor of AK or any other rifle. AK47 was adopted along with RPD and SKS as main weapons system chambered in 7.62X39 during 50s and each platform served its own role. AK47 assault rifle, RPD is support light machine gun and SKS is a support carbine. Its just came to be that first 2 have been replaced by much modern rifles and machine guns, but not SKS which soldiers on as its still issued to support troops and 2nd or third line soldiers that not doing the actual fighting.

It has been being used right along side the AK47 on both sides since the trouble began, not really news. I do find it ironic though that almost 70 years after the Russians dumped the SKS in favor of the AK it is right back in use with the gun that supplanted it and holding it's own quite nicely...

I meant dumped as it was relegated to second line service and they stopped producing them, handing the tooling to China after only a short time in favor of mass producing and using the AK47as the first line rifle. Yes they were still used, but was at best a secondary weapon in their eyes only good for lesser important assignments, training and for giving away as military aid.

And the Donetsk (spelling?) rebels are not a recognized government by the UN. But they can still be held accountable by an international court. It'll never happen though.

Pretty girl. A shame these people, on both "sides" are thrust into this developing proxy war.
We all know who ends up suffering the most in these circumstances: innocent civilians.

Anyone call her good looking is desperate.average and below at best. and humiliation of POW is war crime with Geneve convention signed or not by perpetrators.

#%@#... my heart breaks for this country.

Perhaps it's because my background is part Ukrainian, but I feel so low when I see pictures of the conflict there.

Separatist terrorists aren't exactly issued new kit. They use whatever they can steal or are given by trouble makers like Putin.
The Russians didn't 'dump' the SKS either. It was never intended to be for long term issue. Once enough AK's were made(also for issue to illiterate conscripts) the SKS was relegated to second line service and to 'client' States like North Viet Nam.
The blond look like she could use a few meals, but I suspect she could trick me. snicker.

I don't know, take away the fatigues and put her in a g-string and some high heels and I bet she looks hot. Eastern Bloc women are generally lookers while they're young and we know shes good to go around firearms, ''Ukrainian Mail order bride, comes with own sks". Sounds good to me, lol.

In my youth I learned a lesson the hard way... "Never date the daughter of a Taiwanese Intelligence Officer. Sure, she may be hot, energetic, and .... creative... But all that comes with a bag full of crazy that isn't conducive to my long-term health."

I would strongly suspect that "Pro-Russian Rebel Separatist" would come with a similar giant bag of crazy.

Versus "Bathhouse Barry" to the South of us and Guantanamo Bay ..... "Czar" has abetter ring to it.

"Pro Russia militants and their Pro U.S. POW!"

You think people who fight for freedom and integrity of their country are "Pro U.S." ?
You should be ashamed of posting of those pictures here, to begin with.
I can't believe that some people can admire SKSs, looking at those pictures, and the blonde whore, who is plain murderer.
Maybe you guys keep a nude picture of Eva Braun too on your computers?
A would suggest moderator to close this thread as absolutely inappropriate.
By the way there is a picture of woman wrapped in Ukrainian Flag that those so called militants tied to the post for public humiliation, do you want to see it too? There are some guns on the background.
Or how about picture of militants stealing the valuables from the crash site of MH 17 that they just shot down, they also have guns on them?

Anybody that believes America is as bad as Russia, doesn't know what they are talking about. No offense, I speak from experience.

And I wish to add that I do not dislike Russian people at all. Just most of their governments for the last 1000 years. Their people have suffered just as much because of those governments as the nations around them.
