A couple years ago I told my wife that when she got her RPAL that I would get her a stainless steel Ruger Bearcat. Well, the application is in the mail so I need to buy one. I've checked several site sponsors but I was wondering if any of my fellow CGN'ers have seen who might have cheapest one. I'll continue looking but I'm sure there are places out there that I'm not aware of (site sponsor or not). Thanks in advance!

Don't tell the wife you're looking for the "cheapest" one. :p Congratulations on getting her shooting, I've recently been able to do the same with my wife and she too is now eyeing an RPAL...and all sorts of range toys. (Gawd help me, I think I've created a monster)

The Ruger SP 101 is very similar to the Bearcat and maybe even have replaced it.

Very similar? Sure, they're both stainless-steel .22 caliber revolvers made by Ruger ... but I wouldn't say that they're "very similar". They each have a very different "feel" and look.

Just my opinion ... :)

The Bearcat is a quality single-action(only) revolver. I owned the stainless version (new model).
Fit and finish is very good but I found the tolerance of the holes in the cylinder so tight that some bulk ammo wouldn't feed due to slightly bulging casings. Made punching out spent casings a choir too. It's a very small revolver and takes a few sessions to find a good fit in your hands and to get used to the fixed sights.
Ended up selling it because 6rnds was too slow loading and unloading….for me. YMMV

the SP101-22 is nice, i have one, but wow you almost need 3 men and a small child to pull that trigger when new!
she's tight! tight like a tiger!

ive shot the bearcat and have the single 6, have shot the single 10 and own the sp101-22
out of them all my wife likes the sp101 for the feel, shes not into western guns.

so you may wanna make sure your wife likes the feel of the western guns, which im assuming youve already done, in that case then ya the bearcat is nice, nice and small, if my daughters ever start to like my western guns ill pick up a bearcat for them to shoot.

I am a fortunate guy. On the wall of my office, I have a framed page from a 1946 Sports Afield (or maybe it was Field & Stream) that I bought via Ebay years ago ... a full page black & white advertisement for a Smith & Wesson Model 34 Kit Gun. The company was explaining that ... now that the war was over ... they'd be ramping up production ASAP and that folks just had to be patient. I remember seeing a similar ad when I was a kid in about 1961. Similar graphics ... knapsack, canoe, fly-rod, bonfire, modest canvas tent ... the stuff of a 12-year-old's fantasy world ...

And I (naturally) now have a Model 34 ... bought in Winnipeg in about 1973. The phrase "jewel-like" comes to mind.

I also have a 4" Model 17, but the little Kit Gun is just sooo cool.

geez calling an sp101 similar to a bearcat is like calling a colt 1873 similar to a colt python...

uhhhh....no.

I have both an sp101 and a bearcat. Apples and Oranges.

The bearcat is a fantastic old west style .22lr that is .22lr sized. It's small, compact and kids, wives and myself love it for this.

Sp101 is a nice compact, modern DA revolver. The only thing it shares with the bearcat is the fact it has a cylinder and can be considered a revolver.
