Handled a NYS "Compliant" AR yesterday

wow, didnt know that. crazy how a little bit of ingenuity can circumvent a useless law.

were previously purchased pistol grip AR platforms grandfathered?

They didn't prohibit the AR, they just required them to be registered. I think the stats for compliance to that were somewhere around 1%

You can no longer buy a standard AR, but you can own it. So I guess it is grandfathered in a way.

i think the law is stupid, but the rifle looks pretty cool!!!

too bad it would still be restricted here. dumb laws...

I dont mind it at all, and if we were under the same legislation I would be saying that its better than nothing.

The problem is, it isn't really much better than nothing. It's clearly a step towards getting rid of the platform. If Canada were to have those laws, since we don't have the 2nd amendment (and, I don't believe we really truly have the right to own guns, but that is up for discussion and I don't really know for sure how I feel on it.... to me a right, in the modern world, is something that is protected from politicians and police violating, in a constitution or charter - though I fully understand the argument that many guys supporting rights would present, and support the argument in some ways, but don't know for sure it applies), we'd be well on our way to losing all semi autos. So I wouldn't necessarily say better than nothing, because nothing would only be one or two steps away.....

Beats the hell outa what we're allowed to shoot, off range.

Agreed, as I would rather have the accuracy, durability and reliability of an AR instead of most of the overpriced NR rifles we are offered here in Canada even if w/o a true pistol grip.
This NYS AR may not look appealing, but I'd rather have looks lousy versus shoots lousy as most of the semi-auto. center-fire NR offerings we have to choose from lack decent accuracy.

Thanks for clearing that up, it still didn't feel quite right.

Salt Lake City (or at least the parts ive been to) was awesome. everyting was clean, the women were all good looking everyone was friendlt and polite even before they found out i was a Canadian. out of the cities on that list that ive been to, Salt Lake is on the list to visit again.

I'm going to go out on a limp and say that those cities are growing because of industry and not so much because of firearm ownership rights...
