Diemaco C8 worth the price?

Hi all,

The C8 and C7s have been in the civilian market for a few weeks now, just curious as to anyone shot it yet and how does it feel? They are priced at over 2K and was wondering what exactly makes them so expensive? To my knowledge they are double chrome barrel-ed which equals to longer barrel life....anything else? (accuracy, reliability, etc.) I have the DA556 right now from CanAm and they shoot just fine and aesthetically pleasing xD. Is the C8 really worth the 2k or am I better off getting a Daniel Defence or something? (which has free floating barrels).

Simple answer is.. Irunguns Colt Extravaganza. Colts from $998 and $1149 for Colt AR15A4's.

The Lure of the Diemaco is it is Canadian Made. It is not a better Rifle. Some find value in that. Others do not.

I am not paying double for the same rifle.

If your DA556 is shooting fine, buy a nice optic and MORE Ammo!! Shoot, Shoot, Shoot! :)

Yep, I put a EoTech 512 on it and works beautifully! Bought a crate from CanAm when they had the buy-3-get-1-free deal, just debating with my self as to whether or not to get a vertical grip or something--or eventually buy a better rifle when I save up some money!
 
If you are a shooter, go for the irunguns colt or DD or whatever brand with features you prefer.
If you are have money to burn, or you want a c8 just because, do what you like.
But even if you have money to burn, it's better burned somewhere else, like a custom 1911 or something, atleast you are getting something extra for your money.
 
Short answer, NO it's not worth the money. However, if owning a Colt Canada rifle floats your boat it may be worth your money. But comparing apples to apples with other rifles on the market, they are over priced.
 
OP - what are you hoping to gain but switching to a "better rifle" regardless of brand?

Why type of shooting are you doing or planning on doing?

Is a FF handguard important for you? Your rifle will shoot just fine without it unless you are grabbing and torquing on it Chris Costa style.

Have you considered just buying and FF handguard for the rifle you have, like a DD Omega, that simply replaces your plastic handguards and does not require removal of the front sight tower?

I have an SA20 and I like it. No issues with reliability and decent AR accuracy (1.5 MOA with hand loads). Honestly, I wanted a great quality Canadian made rifle so I went that route. It satisfies my requirements but cost wise it was a stretch for me. I'm not magically seeing any kind of improvement in my accuracy or competition scores as a result so it was not a practical purchase from that point....but why always be practical :)
 
It's worth it for the Korth group. Unsubstantiated rumour has it they're making $500 off each rifle, which would explain the discrepancy in price. I have never seen a C7 (with 3.4x Elcan) shoot better than 2moa. My 14" Norinco M4 shoots 2moa with the cheapest ammo I can find, so why bother buying Colt? Both versions are milspec, meaning they meet the minimum military specification. Yay! $2000 for something that slightly exceeds the Army's minimum standard!

If I wanted an uber awesome AR, made in Canada, I'd get it from ATRS... Just sayin'
But, whatever blows your hair back, just don't let them blow it in your hair!

2010, CFB Borden , 300 yards by a PRes Cpl with a c7 off the rack shooting issued ball ammo.

I was pulling the target so I snapped a pic with my phone. The guy was good.

Some good advice here. Make no mistake, the Colt Canada guns are good guns. But if you are simply looking for a decent looking, good shooting AR, there are many much less expensive options out there that will shoot just as good or better.
 
I think CF and ex CF members will want one because it is similar to what they used. That's why I wanted one but when I saw the price I decided that it wasn't worth the extra $1000 to have a maple leaf on the side of a rifle.

Shooting a C7A2 I assembled out of random barracks box parts I beat 499 0f 508 competitors at AFSAM/WPW. Pulling/borrowing a rack rifle from a Reserve infantry unit I beat 489 of 500 in my class at Bisley, and handed a number of AMU shooters running DMRs their a$$es when we comparing scores and they were forking over the beer. Colt Canada makes a quality product.

i dont think there is any doubt in anyones mind that you're one hell of a shooter, people are just questioning the very questionable price tag...
