Meet the new Heckler & Koch G38 German rifle ...

Nice looking rifle made by a company that knows how to do it, but.................

Isn't it just a piston-driven AR with a quad-rail and railed flattop?

As far as Keymod handguards go, unless and until the US military agrees to modify the STANAG, troops will be using railed handguards for a loooooooong time to come.

I don't get it. All I see is another AR-15. I take it this one is more shootier than your average AR-15?

Ohh yeah, I forgot. I heard somewhere that H&K has all thier weapons magically enchanted by a wizard, so that whoever wields one of their guns becomes a super tactical operator. It'll also increase the operators bullet resistance by +10 and will make enemies up to level 50 flee for 60 seconds.

its german, same cult obsession with bmw and mercedes

I'm not a fan of keymod either but I see its merit. But I do like the look of this rifle...I do want a shorty HK!!!

The majority of guys can do 400 at KD, as long as they are taught and coached by someone who actually knows how to shoot.

The problem is that there are not too many guys who know how to teach and coach.

And the next thing is, in field condition, range estimation and environment factors have a big say on practical hitability. With no one to spot and adjust fire, the maximum practical point and shoot range is about under 250m. There is no need to have a long barrel - it is a waste, purely from external ballistics perspective.

All of this need time, which the army doesn't like to give and the guys want to go play COD at home. And as a grunt we don't use spot and adjust fire much, as a section (8x c7 and 2x m203, 2x c9) you just wreck the enemy position. At 300-400m you use more the volume of fire than precision.

don't you guys have those fancy lrb range finder binoculars?

For the first question: Yes you can buy it, but take it off it you don't want get it stolen at the Coy maintenance day and you're not there to clean your own rifle. You'll get the usual joking from the guys like joe kit and stuff.

We do have Vector LRF, but mainly for Recce and sniper. It's pretty you'll see grunts with thoses.

Ah yes the HK 416 it's still the champion of Assault rifles over all.

A small arm rifle made for professional soldiers/warfighters.

For us we can get a 416 upper in 10.4 too 20 or get 14.5,16.5 from tactical imports which is basically the same thing. Price for the MR223 is not great but it's not HK,s fault.

I see no argument in favour of the existence of this gun. And I don't expect them to buy in any serious amounts.

The German military?

First and foremost, this is a G38 and it is a military rifle, not a civilian rifle. Everything is done what the Germany military wants, and keymod is still a civilian phenomenon.

.............

lol by the time the jet comes in for an authorized run the target has retreated, has gotten their relief, has gotten their permission slips, and is having vodka and borsht with their family in a Moscow suburb

Not the case with the guys in the Kiowa Warriors. On a couple of occasions they fired their personal weapons and dropped grenades on suspected enemy positions to draw fire so they could put in a rocket run.

Really highlighted the difference in Canadian and American training in the use of helos in offensive Ops (ours would never do that).

The big deal is that this rifle will augment and maybe replace the G36. Theres a big scandal brewing over the G36 involving its performance and corruption of govt officials when they adopted the rifle. The German army has already canceled orders for future G36 rifles.

i sure hope so, things look pretty bleak in eastern Europe right now, hopefully the german army has been training hard they might be the only thing holding Ivan back once they are done with Ukraine.
