Ruger single six price ?

Okay folks I've got a question .
I know an elderly gentleman who suggested that I should buy his Ruger single six . He has no idea of its value and neither do I . He bought it new , he thinks in the 1950s . I saw it and it is pretty much perfect , has the original box and even a holster that seems like it belongs with it . I don't know if they made them way back then with both the .22 and .22 mag cylinders , but regardless , his has only the .22 as that's how he purchased it .
He is a very sweet decent man , and I would like to know a fair price for this gun as I really wouldn't mind having it , but don't want to under pay him .
What's its fair value ?

My guess would be $375-425. due to no 22mag conversion cylinder. There's no collector value with a Ruger Single Six as far as I know. It ain't no Colt.
 
Does it have a flat loading gate and no "transfer-bar conversion" done to it? If so, would hold more value. I have seen such guns go for ~$500-$600.
 
Has the flat loading gate but he said it had the original " unsafe " transfer bar thingy , lol .
It has stag grips I believe .
 
The old Ruger Single Six 22LR revolvers are a very good gun, $500 would be a fair market value for a very good condition early Single Six.
There are collectors that like the early Ruger Single Six and shooters like them as well, I had one but it got traded because I had moved up to a SAA in 45 Colt.
 
Some people do value the flat gates because they are the original design but to me I'd rather have a late 50's model, before they became convertible (.22mag)but after they went to the sculpted loading gate and the more ergonomic finger tab on the unloading plunger.
I saw a flat gate a month or so ago that was listed by a prolific seller who I've had poor dealings with in the past and he had it listed around $300 and it was pretty mint....I thought about it for a half second and then came to my senses, even though it was below market value. I looked again at his post a half hour later and he had changed the price to around $450 so obviously someone clued him in or maybe he got flooded with offers.
If the gun does have original Ruger Stag grips that would also add some value as those grips are worth a bit on their own.
I don't know what the grips would add but I'd guess around $450 would be the low side of fair.

The early models were not convertible.
For a range gun the original design with it's four click action, no transfer bar, and an indexed cylinder that actually lines up with the ejector rod is a real pleasure to shoot!
 
Thank you all very much . I'm guessing that $450 is a fair amount to pay , so when I see him again I'll tell him what I've learned .

Sounds like you have a nice gun lined up. Post some pics when you get a chance.

And, whatever you do, dont send it to ruger for warranty. They will "update" it with the less than desirable transfer bar.
