I have a hankering for a preferably new but might settle for used, smaller .38 special. I got a Ruger GP100 currently and i like it. However I want something that is smaller, preferably not SS, DA and shoots .38 special only. What are my options and what would you recommend? Thanks for any advice.

I can't think if any currently-offered non-prohib blued .38 revolvers. In any case I would think that something like an older Model 14 would be better than nearly anything offered today. It'd have a 6 inch barrel, but slimmer lines than your GP100.
Isn't Ruger's SP101 (5 shot) a .38/.357 Rem Mag? It can come in our Canadian friendly 4.2". Tough find, perhaps Epp's?

He wants blued, not stainless steel. The SP101 is only in stainless.
He wants .38Special only. Most variants of the SP101 are .357Magnum so they can fire .38Special, but then they aren't .38Special only. (There is one that's .38Special, but it's prohibited here because the barrel is two and a quarter inches long.)

Find an old S&W 1905 model of the 4th change or Victory revolver. They shoot like a dream. And you could find them new a long time ago (I sort of missed that part).

Why a .38 spl only? Why not give yourself more options with a .357? Easier to find, costs about the same. If you're gonna spend the dough, might as well get full bang for the buck. Pun intended!

I already have a .357 magnum. I mostly only shoot .38 special out of it anyways. I want a new to me blued revolver on the smaller side. Revolvers chambered for .38 special only are generally smaller then .357 magnums.

Then your best call is look for older S&W K frames on the EE. Any newer 38Spls only guns will probably be a prohib. Don't know much about the Alpha Project guns but they don't look as ###y as a Smith or a Colt. Just my $0.02.
I have a 357 S&W and I shoot plenty of .38 special with it but it would be nice to have a lighter gun to shoot lighter ammo. I kind of like the look of the Alfa Project .38 Special Blued Revolver but I would like to try it or talk to someone who owns one before buying.

I like the idea of a purpose .38 special as I don't own one but I'm also unsure of the Alpha Project as I have no experience with them. I would want to actually see it in a store and wouldn't buy one online. Unfortunately a non prohibited .38 special is a rare gun in Canada and if you want one with a 4.2 barrel you can't be too picky.

I, on the other hand, like .357s. You have the versatility of both rounds. Alpha Proj. not withstanding, most Smiths, Colts, Rugers of the proper, non- prohib class ie minimum K-frame size are the same size whether they are chambered for .38 or .357. Any perceived lightness would be small. All purpose made small sized .38 available in Canada are likely prohib, again not counting the Alpha Project. Either way, a blued, light weight, purpose built, new 4.2 inch .38 spl would be difficult to come by.
I wont argue with that I went through a hundred .375s and over a hundred .38s yesterday in my Smith & Wesson 686 and it is nice being able to shoot both rounds from one gun. I'm a bit of a collector and would just like to own a .38 special plus it would be lighter and little bit more fun for my wife and daughter in law.
