I bought it last Christmas for $200. 1941 tula , refurb. beautiful shape. Took it to the range shortly after I got it. Little did I know the gas system was not set up right and the first round fired but did not eject. The charging handle jammed shut. took about 1/2 hour to get it open and to remove the spent case. after that I did not want to fire it again until I figured out what was going on. it sat in the safe until I did some research and found out I needed a gas adjustment tool. I ended up cutting one out with the laser we have at work. It fit perfectly on the nut ,so I went to the range today ,adjusted the gas. First round fired but when it tried to eject it was a stove pipe, I was getting closer. after another adjustment another stove pipe. one more adjustment and the gun now works flawlessly. What a fun gun to shoot!!!pretty accurate too. shot a 100 rounds . took her home and cleaned her up. Cleaning is a bit of a ##### but I'll get used to it. I'm pumped now.

No kidding on the noise.....that's one noisy gal.
I think its at 1.4 or 1.5 I did not really look I jus started at 1.2 and adjusted it up a couple or three times until it cycled. I am using prc ammo. I have heard the prc does not work that well with the svt but mine seems to cycle well. I might try getting some other brand and turn the gas down a bit. BTW what year is your cb750. I had a 78 cb550 four for about 8 years. Love those bikes!
And the air off the muzzle break will just about blow you over. I noticed this when my buddy was shooting it.
Once you've run it at the range a few times and cleaned it afterwards, try dialing it back again. I had to set mine to 1.7 at first for it to cycle reliably, but after a few range trips and cleanings, it seemed to work the last of the crud out of it and cycle smoother, so I started dialing it back.
I'm now at 1.3 and it runs like a champ.
p.s. Got mine off the same sale. I can ring a 24" gong at 400 meters with it, 10 shots for 10. Anyone tries to pass along the "SVT's are inaccurate" crap to you, tell them to go pound sand because they don't know what they're talking about. There's a lot of people on this board who actually know how to shoot them, and get great results with them.

Yeah I was always eying the svt's up at $300-350 so when I saw the sale for $200 I jumped on it. Really nice condition svt too. I also have a sks and a 91/30 mosin. So the svt is a nice addition. Its like an addiction now. I also came across a m44 for $150 but the guy had modded the bolt and cut off the bayonet lug. I almost cried when I heard that. I took a pass on that one

My "range" is a relative's mixed farm with a large open pasture... My range fees involve getting out of the city, working up a sweat to help out a bit for a few hours, then spending the afternoon in the back pasture. Lunch is provided once the range fees have been paid
I'm at 1.3 and with new norinco ammo I get the odd round in 10-15 that ejects but gets caught between the bolt and action. I need to get out again and increase the gas setting to the next setting, it only happens with the norc ammo and not the commercial mfs soft point I picked up. Have to run some corrosive surplus through it and see if it does the same or runs through it fine.
I'm riding a 77 cb750k, great bikes the old sohc Hondas. It's my daily rider with a 78 kz1000 in the wings I'm getting road worthy, love the 70's jap bikes. Would like to pick up a crotch rocket next though, nice to have vintage and modern to choose from. How did you find the cb550 on the highway? I always liked the thought of a smaller lighter, lower centre of gravity bike. But I love the 750 for city and highway commuting.
It was pretty good on the hwy. Not a touring bike but could easily go a few hundred km's pretty comfortably. I think the 550 is a good compromise between the smaller sohc bikes and the 750. I always wanted a cb750 sohc . such an iconic bike.
Iconic it is, I'd love a nice stock 70-72 cb750. I feel I might have missed the boat on reasonably priced early models by a few good years. Nice original condition stockers are in the $5000 and up range unfortunately, more if you start looking for certain years and condition. Great bikes though, are you riding anything at the moment?

I know now is the time, and I love the cartridge and look and history of the rifle, but I could not gel with the feel of it. Guess I'll hold one again, been about a year...

I like the look of the svt the best out of the three. I was really surprised at the length of it, almost as long as the 91/30. one thing I really like about them is the detachable mag. I wish I could put ten in it though. Its such a ridiculous law
