I would love to get a paratrooper sks... the sks with the shorter barrel. Does anyone know where they are sold?

Thanks.

They haven't produced them for 25 years or so. There are no stores that carry them anymore. If you look hard you can find one used or on EE

Thanks all. From what I have heard there were many on EE a year ago... I have been watching but have yet to see one there... I shall keep looking... <sigh> :)

what you heard is wrong , your observation is correct , in the last 8 years I only seen two and both were pretty expensive .

I had one that I purchased back in the late 90's from Wolverine. Am guessing I paid $150 for it.

Then a few years later sold it to a friend of mine (also a CGN member) for $200, including a ammo container of surplus 7.62x39. He had it for a year then sold it as well for about the same price.

We met up this summer and took turns kicking each other for making such poor decisions in our past.

Take Chinese SKS and cut the barrel 18 3/4".

para is restricted that's why its so uncommon.

same goes for the sks-d , should have bought it for $25 more, standard was selling for $99.

At gun shows I've seen the odd SKS-D with a shot out barrel (pretty much smooth bore) on a table for $500-$600... they usually only make it through the first few hours of the show before selling.

Both the "D" and "Paratrooper" versions were made for the US market, and then when Clinton banned the Chinese imports, the leftovers got dumped in Canada, IIRC. Between the two, I'd rather have a D, for the better mags, but it would need a decent barrel, and not shot to sh!t like the ones I've seen at shows. And probably not for $500-$600 either, I've got to much Scottish in my blood for those prices.

The whole Paratrooper, SKS-D thing were marketing gimmicks to sell consumer SKS rifles. They also had a Farmer's Friend rifle and some sort of Cowboy Companion of one name or another. They were all marketed towards the North American Market but as things quickly became restricted on this side of the border sales fell off. I'm sure someone will correct me on the proper names and/or the ones I missed.

As I recall, the Paratrooper SKS wasn't anything to write home about. There was better accuracy in the standard SKS version with longer barrel. I've fired most of the version they had in those days as they were popular for schits n giggles. I still have my "made for consumer" version SKS from the early eighties, and it hasn't failed despite many decades and many many crates of ammo down range.

I've heard stories of one in Canada, it may or may not be registered. There's very little demand for them as they are restricted in this lovely country.
