I ran across a gent this weekend who just inherited not one but two Number 4T's with transit cases, cleaning kits, matching scopes and optics with case. I didn't get a long look at it but it is a M47C build. Wish I had read this thread before I saw it. A few things did stand out to me. The stock is lightly sanded but all marks are still crisp and clear. Also, the receiver and mag seem to have a heavy, almost truck bed liner finish with the "T" only visible due to removal of some of that material. Other than that it all seemed on par with what I knew about them. I want to give him a fair price so once I get pictures, I will post here. Also, just ballpark what would a matching authentic rig cost and what would a screwed with rig cost?

Ok. It was definitely brunofixing. I appreciate the photos. Like I said, not new to Enfield collecting but I am new to T models so I want to know exactly what I am purchasing and make sure he and I get a fair price.

the one I'm looking at doesn't have the transit case for the rifle and gear but does have the scope, sling, mag and scope case
inside the scope case is a copy from what appears to be magazine paper, of sightin in instructions taped to the inside lid dated 1898 , no doubt put their by the owners father years ago.
anyone know when collectors started making No4T repros?
I don't think I'm dealing with a repro but I want to know what to look for. The optic is certainly of many many decades ago.

TR on left side of buttsocket under s/n
T stamped on left sidewall
Crown06E on top of receiver behind cocking piece
S on flat on right of receiver
S51 on bottom of buttstock.
Matching- receiver, bolt handle, forend, scope bracket & often magazine
Scope number (on No 32 scope) should match number stamped on top of buttstock.
Brit guns have the s/n stamped on top of the buttstock inside the butt socket.
This is for an all matching rifle. There are many mismatches out there. As long as all of the parts are authentic...

the piece of paper taped inside the case , I doubt it was something issued with the rifle. it appears like it was a cutout from a pamphlet or magazine. that kind of paper anyways. in the bottom left corner is 1898..... might be nothing at all. it does have the instructions for operating the optic in detail on it tho.
pics are coming in the thread I started a few days ago, i'll bump it.

from handling it..... I seem to remember numbers I found matched the numbers on parts of the rifle and the optic mount and case. the buttstock has a serial number on the top of the wrist behind cocking piece, this number did not match anything but i'll need to check it all again with the new info you have provided.

Here are the pics I just received from him and this was his email "It looks like I have 2 rifles almost identical with 2 wooden transit cases. I have 2 scopes, each match their respective scope transit case (1 metal, 1 canvas) but not the rifle number in either case. Maybe not looking at the right place."
I took a quick peek. Jealous of the matching scope for sure.
