I always wanted to do a black bear hunt so i booked a trip with an outfitter from hearst ontario eleven hour drive later i was there for the hunt i brought my m305 shortie m14.ca casm mount and trijicon rmr dual ill. My outfitter had me set up nice as i was expecting to be hanging up my tree stand but instead he put me in one of his tree houses i called it my condo. First night i was sitting in the stand for 2 hours nothing, next day my bait has been hit so replenished the bait and 15 minutes later off to my left here comes this big male bruin no time to get exited i thought to my self i pulled out my phone and hit record and got ready i watched him for about 3 minutes before he gave me a chance it was a perfect shot right through the hearth he took a few paces and dropped in about 10 yards boy that was one of the most exiting things i have ever done i finally got my first blackie and it was a nice one weighed in at 310 I'm very happy with the way everything turned out.

here is the video link i don't know how to post it on here

Great bear. I like the pic of you with your arm around it. Really awkward prom date! Congrats.

any bear recipes from the hunters out there?

For hamburger, just grind the meat, no need to cut it with any other meat. I add a little salt, pepper, garlic, the standard egg and some finely crushed crackers to hold it together and onto the barbie.

For roasts, watch your temp (trich), but don't overcook more than necessary or it'll be tough. I'll try making some hams after this falls hunting (do all in one batch of brine) Got my first bear this spring, so I'm a newbie at cooking it, but all we've had over for supper were pleasantly surprised at how good tasting the meat is. My personal take, it's Very mild, milder than beef. If I really concentrate there's a slight, "let's say foreign" flavor? But not that it's in any way bad. It's just a new flavor to me. One our family hopes to repeat next year. Congrat's on the bear!

Good shot! I can never get used to that death moan but it is the sound of success when bear hunting. Good job waiting for the right shot. A lot of guys would have shot sooner but you held out and didn't have to do any tracking. You're now a pro. Congratulations.
