Pistol powder= Not Available

You guys need to think outside the box.
If your desperate for something to shoot in your pistols----talk to some old shotgunners. You'd be surprised that a good deal of shotgun powder is extremely versatile. Stuff like 700x can be used in almost all pistol calibers--can't find a recipe? Look in OLDer manuals, lots of shotgun powders used. Talk to OLDer guys, they've been thru either nonavailability; or just can't afford more than one type of powder. Shotgun powders do double duty with pistol calibers. Its kept me shooting when more modern powder isn't available.

I've always considered pistol and shotgun powders equivalent. So much so that I never used the term shotgun powder before because Ive always felt they were the he same. Challenge is, there isnt muh shotgun power either.

I really don't want to try running some flakey shotgun powder thru my lee auto disk measures. I can't see it going terribly well...

I've a few pounds of unique that I use in 44-40, but I don't load that on the progressive.

Ditto on the old manuals, though. Great for if you run into some Alcan at a gun show. Lol

The last show I was at I scored a pound each of bullseye and 2400 in the old cardboard cans. He was asking pretty much modern retail for them and would not budge. Couldn't blame him - I'd do the same.

I looked into buying some pistol powder from Cabellas since they had some in..... but the shipping is delusional. $158.00 just for handling/shipping... bollucks!!

I just scored 3 lbs of AL 5 and a pound each of AL 7&8 in addition to some equally obsolete, faster pistol powders. I was already in pretty good shape due to my willingness to buy obsolete powders and work up my own loads, but a windfall like that could not be passed up.
5 grains of AL 5 has my Blackhawk shooting 38 special 150 grain cast at 830 fps. Nice and clean to.
I won't say how much I gave for almost 10 lbs of powder, but the money would not have bought a pound at today's prices.
