870 2 3/4" to 3"

Got an old wingmaster stamped 2 3/4" on the barrel. Gonna get a 20'' barrel for it. Can I just get a 3" chambered barrel for it and safely shoot 3" or is there more to it than that?

probably safe to shoot, however may or may not cycle. just from experience

good to go with new barrel, but might have issue ejecting as the ejector is a little different.

however my wingmaster had the ejector missing and still ejected all shells fine, even 3"

You will need a new ejector if you want to cycle 3" shells.

the ejector spring or the actual ejector?

the spring is only there to aid in ejecting shells if you cycle the action slowly.

I've used many v series receivers with 3" barrels and shells and never had any issue. I've never tried any older than the mid 1970s so I can't speak on any that are older than that.
