Cleaning up the cave, and came across a jar with a few bullets in it. Literally found it in a corner.

Oh, the memories! ....... my son's first deer with that little 117 gr Hornady in his 25-35 , the 64" moose that my wife got with her 308, the huge bison bull that shew whacked with that 180 gr Kodiak in her 30-06, and that rolling fat bear with the Hornady375 that we ate all winter, the 60" caribou that I got with that 286 gr Dual core using my first 9.3X62, my that was a long time ago, how many sheep, that goat, and the bison with the 250X bullet that "failed"..... and these are just the recovered ones.

Two, of many, that failed....

The Barnes obviously tumbled, but still put a woods bison in the freezer. The bottom one was found laying on the snow. Looks like one of those Game Rangers, mikes .313", and has five grooves, evidently fired in a 303 British. Never knew they had a core like that. I wonder who was using those?

You guys must have some of these memories, too. Check out a few corners, and see. :)

Well, I have a shelf with lots of "spent" bullets on it. In the middle of moving right now but they are just sitting there waiting to get packed in a jar or box headed for the new gun room. If I remember I will snap a picture...

They always bring back good memories for sure!

I wrap wire around mine and attach them to the antlers. Hard to do on a bear, though.

The 130 grain 270 Barnes was recovered from the neck of a mule deer and maybe lost .5 grain.

The 250 grain 338 Nosler Partition was recovered from a moose and weighs 167 grains.

Lets see what I have pictures of handy.

175gr Barnes LRX shot from my .300 WSM at about 75 yds. Recovered from a moose against the hide after smashing the leg bone on the offside.

225gr Barnes TSX from my .35 Whelen at about 10 yds. Recovered from a moose's neck. Frontal finishing head shot. Previous broadside shot went through.

160gr Barnes TSX shot from my 7mm Rem Mag at about 100yds. Recovered from a moose. Quartering toward shot. In between the neck and shoulder and found against the hide in the kidney area on the off side.

140gr PMC factory ammo shot from my sporterised 6.5x55 at about 30yds. Recovered from a whitetail shot from a tree stand. Sharp quartering away shot behind the last rib and recovered in the offside shoulder.

Heres a few I used to know

I Have two jars of bullets here, one is premium bullets, of which about 25% are actually recovered....the other 75% made exit and were lost.

The second jar is conventional bullets, and some are not looking good, while others fared very well. These pics are several years old, so there are more to add.

But you will get a little look, anyway. :).

First group is mostly Partitions, plus a few bonded ones.

Regards, Dave.

I pulled a few .458s this year for fun, no make that for science. CEBs, TSX and A-Frames.

Some Hornady DGX garbage.

Some Barnes that got hurt real bad, awhile back.

And some excruciatingly boring A-frames pulled out of buffalo. I can't believe that I wasted all that time getting them out when every last one looks exactly the same.;)

I don't think Swift has anything to worry about yet.

I have zero experience shooting swift a frames, but man oh man that darn rite impressive! I'll see if I can find some in 35. For my whelen.

How do the react when shot into lighter game such as deer or black bears?

I've never been able to get one to stay in anything smaller than a buffalo, but have shot red stags that aren't much different than a big mule deer and any number of pigs. They are an easy opening, bonded partition style bullet that will stubbornly resist coming apart and seldom lose more than grain or two of weight. There are different schools of thought on bullet performance, and if someone finds that they get more dramatic kills on deer sized animals with a bullet that fragments somewhat they won't get any argument from me.

I find the A-Frame a better all round killing bullet than the TSX, with a difference in hitting that you can see and hear. On thick skinned animals they both typically stop on the far-side hide, on thin skinned they both typically exit. What happens between the entrance and exit is dramatically different though. They do cost a little more, but not nearly as much as some of the designer bullets out there. CI Distribution seems to be the most reliable source.

Here's some recovered from Giraffe, Cape Buffalo and Zebra:

They include several 400 gr Swift A-frames (404 Jeffrey) - giraffe, Cape Buffalo, 400 gr Barnes Banded Solid ("before"/elephant), 400 gr TSX (416 Rigby - Eland), 380 gr. .375 Rhinos (before and after - giraffe and zebra), a recovered 130 gr (.270) Rhino - whitetail), a 130 gr (.270) TSX - ( Blesbuck), 350gr (.375) TSXs (Waterbuck), a 350 gr Barnes Banded Solid (giraffe). Got several more in jars from moose and deer.
