I've been frustrated with losing shells out of my carriers with simple movement or bumping. Here we are friends. A heavily modified AP Custom carrier that seems to work very well. The top sets of clamps had a piece of shrink tubing approximately 1/4 x 3/8 threaded on and shrunk with a BBQ lighter. I hope this helps!!

At this point I've applied the fix just to the top clamps. There's no reason not to do the same with the bottom ones. The shells are much more stable.

Looks great. Like I mentioned in the other thread, this is something I'm going to be doing to mine as soon as I get home in a few weeks.

Thanks again. No idea why I didn't think of this.

The best AP fix is buying Carbon Arms loaders. Nobody makes bettr for dueces.

Just bought some to replace my AP L2/4's. Love the AP stuff, and I've never lost shells during a match, but I'm always worried about it. Looks like this might have reduced my anxiety a bit.

Hmmm.
I've only lost rounds when grounding into a modified prone - not sure any carrier would have helped with retention save for a dump pouch filled with loose SG shells.
Which of the carbon arms models do you recommend D?

Great idea. I recently traded mine. Would have liked to try this. I had shells falling every match. More do to me running like a bull in a China shop than the carriers. :D

The 10 round SSL Pinwheel system gives you the most options....IMHO!
Coupled with the safariland ELS system, this setup will get you squared away for multigun and IPSC shotgun events.

I ordered two SSL 10 round pin wheels last week. They are in missisauga just released from customs. Looking forward to getting them next week.

Its bending the cheesy aluminum on the AP's that make em non3gun worthy.

Carbon Arms 12 Backbone should get you through anything in Canada. Add a checkoslovakian?sp chest rig (cant remember name) and you will be set for anything south of the border as well.

I emailed AP Custom showing my fix and told them how much bad press they are getting on the forums. They must be feeling the effect of better products coming on stream. Like others I have $$$$ invested in those carriers and so hopefully my fix will avoid new purchases.

Aluminium? The clips on mine appear to be sprung stainless steel. Recently purchased this spring...could they have modified the manufacturing of them?

As far as I know the retainers have always been spring steel of some sort. They sell replacements but I don't think that's the answer unless they have recurved them for a tighter fit.

I'm glad its not just me. I feel ripped off paying so much for what seems like crap. Shells fall off when bending over or just about any time you move quickly. For now I have gone back to my 4x4's. They are only a fraction slower and that should change with more practice. the Carbon arms FSL looks promising. Seems like the best of both worlds. However I am getting really fed up with spending money on stuff that doesn't really work. The Safariland 4-shell holders are much better than the Ap customs since they don't have those stupid metal spring clips. How do you get the last two rounds in the holder with those stupid spring clips in the way. ????

I've got an FSL. It's the reason I bought the AP Customs for twins loading.

I recently traded my AP load two and quad setup and bought the Carbon Arms Pin Wheels. I set them up slightly staggered so I can grab a quad or deuce off same setup. Plus even if you don't stagger them they hold shells so good you can just insert every second row lower for the thumb on the quad. Only tried for about 100 shells today but already see why they are highly regarded by many. They may not be as fancy but for me at least they work better and hold shells nicely.

Hmmm. Good Info. 1. What was the problem with the FSL ?
2. Does the Carbon arms pop shells out when bending over to pick up things or re set targets or going prone ?

No problem, per se, with the FSL itself. I don't have large hands and found it very difficult to get all eight rounds out of the carrier for twins loading. I could usually get the first six out okay but the last two usually fold up in my hand. You also can't get your thumb on the "top" round until the shells clear the carrier.

I think it's got to do with the gap between the shells and the retaining arms. As a carrier for weak hand reloads it's as good as anything else I've used.
