Remington 870: To what degree are "factory only" jobs achievable by a good gunsmith?

I keep hearing that the Remington 870 has to "go back to the factory" for certain things, including: Shell stop staked in, ejector staked in, magazine tube replacement.

Being that this is Canada and there are "service centers" (though I imagine they're just gunsmiths who have been certified by Remington), you're going to have to trust a gunsmith to remove or replace the parts.

Are these things generally achievable by a competent gunsmith in Canada? Or do they legitimately need to go back in to NY to get ejectors staked or tubes replaced?

No expert on 870's, and i did not stay at a holiday inn last night.

My two cents worth is that unless its a warranty issue or somehow free fix, why ship it. One would think any experienced Gunsmith has worked on Rem 870's. Its about as belly button a pump shotgun as they come.

I think it's bull#### in the way Ruger needs all their stuff back for service. The 870 may not be as drop in as some other platforms, but it's not exactly complicated either. Maybe its lawyer proofing.

I had tons of FTE's on my new 870. There was a video posted on here with a how to fix it. He shows how to change the extractor and polish the chamber. Super easy. 12g chamber brush with some 00 steel wool and some gun lube hooked to a drill. I didn't change my extractor yet as I havnt had a FTE in 27rnds since I polished the chamber. When I talked to Remington for warranty they wanted me to pay the shipping. So I fixed it myself. You should be able to take down the entire gun yourself. YouTube has pretty much all the info you need.

Shell stops, mag tube and ejectors are broken from abuse. Dont abuse your gun and you have nothing to worry about :)

Would you be so inclined to share that video?
Just bought a new 870 super magnum.

Cheers

Can only remember sending one remington back and that was my K32
We never sent a 870 back for any repairs even when my dad ran the shop
That being said cannot remember ever changing a mag tube on a 870 but did a ton of them on superx1's and the odd 1100

A simple polish of the chamber on an 870 Express is easy as cleaning ones belly button ...not all Remingtons are afflicted with the sticky chambers.
You Tube is only as good as the person uploading it.

Best Regards All.
