Question for the medium bore fans...

I can't see much reason for owning both, unless you want one of each. For strictly north America, my preference would be the .338... shoots a little flatter and just seems a little more flexible than the .375. East of the Manitoba border, there's not much justification for either of them, which is why I'm now using a 9.3x62.

My 404 Jeffery will never make it to Africa in my hands but it works very well for anything I hunt as does my 375 H&H.
Does one make the other redundant... who cares, I shoot both and totally enjoy them.
The 404 seems to be making a revival of sorts and the grand old 375 H&H will be around forever.... long after some other 375s have disappeared....

:)Exactly, and that holds true for the selection of calibres a many of us have.
 
I have a 375Ruger as well as a 9.3x62 and I have a 338wm on order, when I receive the 338 I will probably think about selling the 375 Ruger, the 9.3x62 will be setup with a NECG peep and the 338 will have either a 3-9 or a 2.5-16, or I might change my mind and keep all three.

No doubt you will enjoy all three so why not keep them if you can, that's a lot easier than parting with one or two and then later regretting it.
 
The .338 is for the big game hunter who dreams of BC or Alaska, and the .375 is for the big game hunter who dreams of Africa. Therefore, it necessary to have both to be a well rounded hunter, or is it dreamer?

Another way of looking at it is the .338 is a general purpose hunting rifle for people who are scared of bears, and the .375 is the minimum universally legal DG cartridge for people who are afraid of recoil.
 
Sold 4 different 375. a Ruger #1,2 Win. 70,and a Rem. They all were good guns. I would buy another if I could use a med. My shooting now is only smaller cal. The 375 is the one cal. I do miss not having, just for fun. I do not want or need a 338.
 
The 338WM doesn't do anything well enough to warrant buying one. It's a 300WM with worse SD and BC and a 375 with less performance. Turn the volume up on the 338 to 340 performance and then there's a reason to take notice. But the 340 tends to be more than most people can handle and is only (to my knowledge) available in a Weatherby rifle or in a Remington M700 or Winchester M70 375 H&H or 416 Rem that you rebarreled to 340.

Realistically Dogleg hit the nail on the head.
