Did something stupid and need a new upper.. The barrel/bcg/charging handle are fine.. I know I can get an NEA upper in the $130 range from SFRC, but is there anything out there that's even cheaper? Thanks for any leads, guys.

Other than Polymer lowers, NEA is pretty much the lowest ones out there.

You can try your luck with Motiuk, contact them and see if they have any blems or engraving mistakes they are willing sell you for a nice discount.

Thanks for all the tips/leads, guys. Went with SFRC. If there isn't anything significantly cheaper out there, I'd rather order from a business that I've always been happy dealing with. Wanted to see if I could save a few bucks as this rifle will be going up for sale in a couple of months so I didn't wanna dump too much $$$ into it.

So are you going to spill the beans on what you did to your upper? ;)

A bit embarrassing - used a padded vise instead of a proper vise block to torque down the barrel nut.. Went into (but not above) the upper range of the torque specs and that thin strip on the receiver, under the ejection port snapped. I guess I should have at least filled that part with a piece of plywood and brass shims. Live and learn the $170 (with taxes and shipping) lesson.. I expect for it to get here before your next match

The upper arrived, top-notch service from Ryan as always. They responded to a concern that I raised (caused by a lazy postal worker) immediately even though I wasn't panicking and figured it was something along those lines. This time, I didn't repeat my idiocy, so she'll be g2g for a range trip this weekend :)

CTCS has Noveske stripped uppers for $199. I just ordered one. Way better quality for a tad bit more.

Lipstick on a pig.. I'm running a Core-15 and the saga continues.. Looks like the lower is too tight... I have a buddy's Norinco here (registered in my name until it gets exported), and his upper binds in the same place... Literally can't get it on. The new upper fits his lower no problem. I may have to break out the Dremel and tweak my lower (gently).

Ok, worked on the lower a bit and now, the upper is a real tight fit - to the point where i need to use a rubber mallet to pound it on and pound the pins in... Need to use a punch to get the pins out.. You guys think I should let sleeping dogs lie, fire off a bunch of rounds and let them wear in or should I work with the Dremel a bit more?

Edit: After consulting someone who has forgotten more about the AR platform than I'll ever know, I decided to go with my initial instinct and leave it as is... A couple of hard range sessions should make the receivers wear in :)

I saw that Rusty Wood is able to get Anderson Manufacturing stripped uppers for about $65 cnd. That's hard to beat for a budget beater rifle.
