So now that I have your attention......... :D

I'm looking to attach a red dot to my sons Mini Bolt. I see they sell a base, but it requires tapping the receiver/barrel, something I'd like to avoid. Does anyone make a mount that fits into the milled portion of the barrel (3/8" dovetail) where the rear sight is attached, something like a Winchester 94 scout mount ?
Just looking for some ideas before I start ordering a bunch of stuff that won't work. Thanks!

PS- I have no intention of using it on bear.

Actually... the mini bolt is the perfect bear defense gun... if it is the only gun with you... I might recommended a good steeltoe boot first if that were an option...

Sorry, don't know about mounts, but you got my attention...

3/8" dovetail is a very common rimfire dovetail... You can find plenty of dovetail to weaver/picatinny adapters out there.

Poke around the online retailers... I didn't actually put effort into that search. A lot of sponsor vendors will carry something that meets your needs.

p.s. Make sure it's a 3/8" or 9mm (which is actually slightly smaller than 3/8" ) to weaver adapter. 11mm is the other common dovetail size, and that's too big.

I appreciate the info, but that's not quite what I'm looking for. The Henry doesn't have a milled receiver for the regular 22 mounts.
What I'd like to do is remove the rear sight and find a mount that attached into this milled groove.

Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

.
Actually, a .22 Henry mini-bolt saved my life in a bear defence situation. I was walking in the mountains of BC with my mother-in-law when a large Grizzly bear appeared on the trail about 25 yards in front of us. It appeared very aggressive and started to advance toward us at an alarming rate.

That little rifle was perfect. Thinking fast, I shot her in the leg, and then ran like hell, thus living to tell this story and being able to contribute some useful information on bear defence..:)

Ahhh.. Derp... My bad. I was thinking along the lines of the receiver dovetails or the barrel dovetails you see on Mosins if you take the rear sight off (have red rifles on the brain).

I keep staring at that picture now and thinking "What would Bubba do..."

Maybe I'm reading this wrong. Didn't your Wife ask where her Mother was when you got home? Hopefully the bear ate around the bullet wound in her leg....

Seems stupid of Henry not to drill and tap these things in the factory or mill a standard dovetail rail in the forward part of the receiver.

The factory rail option is overkill and clumsy for a red dot, I'd drill and tap the front receiver block and then attach a small section of picatinny or weaver rail right there instead of on the barrel.

This Volquartsen Ruger MK II might work.....

Most likely require file work to fit.
