any idea how this is different, if at all, from their regular M1A walnut stock?

Field Design is in the title. I'd guess it is a slimmer width to be easier to grip and hold in the field, vs thicker and taller for repeatable position or bench work.

they are "very" skinny all around. not for big hands that's for sure.... and watch yer fingers on the oprod on the forward hand.
