STI nitro in IPSC

Hi, I was just eyeballing the single stack STI nitro.
It says competition approval : pending.
Having a hard look at it, I can't see why it would be excluded from Classic division in IPSC, anyone would have a clue on this?

My Trojan has a bushing barrel, down the road I have wanted to modify it to bull barrel (did not research if division legal mod yet) but the nitro is a 5'' single stack already bull barrelled. If they would say nay to bull barells, the STI ranger ll is already approved...

I am not a competitior, don't have the skills for that, I could win participation awards though ;)

Yeah I was liking the bull barrel, as in the .40SW lineup they don't have classic legal 1911s with bull barrel. This combined with an extra heavy guide rod could reduce some flipping.
I have not talked to a gunsmith yet, maybe a bushing barrel than convert to bull barrel (ie; 30k rounds later at the same time as I get tolerances re-tighted)

I'd give Sean at Freedom Ventures a call. Things may have changed, but a bull-barrel option was available (at no additional cost, if I recall) on the Trojan in .40 S&W. This was a popular choice among the IPSC only crowd.
 
Yeah a bull trojan would be better than a nitro thats sure.
Too bad nitro is not avail in 40 it looks cool.
Thanks for the reply i'll look more into it at some point. Just switched to major, i want to shoot a good 30K rounds and then i'll know if i renovate my existing one or get a new one.
It's just i like classic 1911's and end up window licking more often than not.
 
i dont know if I would go bull barrel and tungsten guide rod (im converting your extra heavy guide rod quote to an actual product, might be wrong). I have a gun with a bushing barrel and tungsten rod and love the way it balances, but throwing even more weight out in the front would tip it towards being quite front heavy.

Might be what you are looking for, but I like my guns quite neutral.
 
Yeah i could start by installing a tungsten guide rod on my bushing barrel.
See if it makes that much of a difference.
At my local club, someone always said that tungsten is harder that the frames metal and would lead to premature wear, thats why i have held off for quite a bit without researching.
As for a bushing barrel, i cant see how its more accurate. My bull barrel is fitted very tightly to my slide on the ranger ll. The slide is the bushing, so to speak. I guess once wear kicks in it will get sloppyer, as opposed to a bushing barrel you can retight tolerances with the fitting of a new bushing.
