Dove hunting in Argentina - anyone been?

Cousin goes every year and has nothing but good things to say. I can reach out for the outfitter is you like. Last three day trip they shot 1.5 flats each.

I was thinking about a trip like that after seeing the contest that WSS had last year or the year before. Looked like fun.

We added some dove hunting onto a buffalo, stag and what-not hunt awhile back. It was sort of a whim, we asked, borrowed shotguns and the owner phoned his buddy and we drove over and shot doves for a few hours. It was rather casual and not like what some dead serious wing-shooting operation would have done.

Anyways, the ammo that we scrounged up on short notice for my borrowed Beretta O/U was high-brass lead #4 duck-loads like we used to use here. I shot 15 1/2 boxes in 2 1/2 hours more or less. I'm reasonably sure there isn't a wrong way to shoot doves in Argentina, but some lighter loads would have been welcome.;) Something that you feel like shooting 1000 times a day just to get warmed up.

We were hunting with Poitahue, which is a first class operation more slanted toward big game.

Something you should look into is going to Accurate reloading.com and checking out the discounted and offered hunts section. Dr. Juan has been offering dove packages for very little for a long time. No complaints that I ever saw. I've been wanting to try him out, but for some strange reason nobody wants to go. The ammo will cost you more than the hunt will.

We shot doves and sandgrouse in Zimbabwe last October, FWIW. Ammo was a bit of an issue, as we were looking at about a buck a pop. (short notice ammo and O/U Beretta).
Very cool experience, though.

Argentina has always intrigued me. Anyone I've talked to who has been there has nothing but praise for it.

I'd be willing to bet that you wouldn't be allowed to. Annoying things like limits and such. There are so many doves in Argentina that they are routinely poisoned as crop destructive pests. Thousands of shots per day are quite normal. That's what you leave your backyard for.
