I'll be needing to sell some of my pistols. I need to know the value of my BHP in 9mm. Serial indicates a 1980 vintage but it is in great shape and shoots fine.

Post "T" series on the EE seem to be asking 700-750 Some sell fairly quickly....some sit for 3-4 bumps. FWIW I bought a decent 2004 .40S&W MKIII in July for $600 shipped with 2 mags the original case, papers, cleaning kit etc

Looking at the photos it appears that you have a "Silver Chrome" version (matte chrome finish, Pachmayr Rubber grips). I'm not sure what ( if anything) that does to the resale value. I posted the question on a Browning owners forum I belong to and will let you know if I get any feedback. The value estimates wouldn't mean much as it is a US based forum but the opinions on value (up or down) relative to a Standard (polished blue finish w. walnut grips) might be of use.

I'd say $700-$900 (based on condition), BHP's really don't lose value, and the older ones (Belgian proofed) seem to have gained.

It depends on how quickly you need to sell it, and when someone comes along who is wants it that much. Mine is blued and walnut, adjustable sights, "Made in Belgium, Assembled in Portugal" and I think it looks to be in better condition than the one pictured. I got it for $650 after it sat in the EE for a long time. If I'd had the funds before the seller dropped the price, I'd have paid more, but I didn't and no one else came along wanting it meanwhile. You might do better, or worse.

The general consensus on the Browning owners forum I frequent is that, all things being equal (condition, number of mags etc etc) they are a little more valuable than a standard BHP of the same vintage but not a bunch $50? $100?. As someone pointed out, Browning didn't sell a ton of them .......not because they were scarce, but because most people at the time prefered the blued models. Someone else pointed out that people should not confuse this gun with the brushed nickle models that were also produced in the early 80's. Those guns had special walnut grips inlaid with a gold "B" and sell for 200-300 more than a Standard in the US

As TheTooner says above, it all depends on having the right buyer come along. There aren't a lot of your model around but there is also not huge demand. I guess you could say that the market is "thin" and because of that prices will vary quite a lot from one sale to the next.

Hope this helps... good luck with your sale.

Thanks sailor 723. How can I confirm the type of finish without taking it in to a dealer?

As I understand it the wraparound Pachmayr grips are the first give away that it is "Silver Chrome". You could try a google image search for "Browning Hi Power Brushed Nickle" ad another for "Silver Chrome" although in photos they do look pretty close. You could call Browning in the US. I'm told they have a historian who can give info, specs, and model type based on the serial number.

I'm certainly no expert but I've seen as much wrong information on BHP's from dealers as anywhere. They shall remain nameless but there was a dealer on here selling a counterfeit FN marked, FEG made Hi Power as a "Belgian made Browning Hi Power" a few months ago.

The Browning Forum based in the U.S. or here? It makes a difference. U.S. prices and values mean nothing here. Nor Blue Book values. Mind you, those don't mean much anywhere.
I' d be thinking $700-$900 too. Not many BHP's listed on the assorted sponsor sites. Except a big money Renaissance and a tangent sighted Inglis at Epp's.

From my post #3 above .......... "The value estimates wouldn't mean much as it is a US based forum but the opinions on value (up or down) relative to a Standard (polished blue finish w. walnut grips) might be of use."

FWIW I agree that your value estimate of 700-900 depending on the right buyer coming along is in the ballpark. Although, I think it would be a struggle to get the upper end $900 as two nice looking T series were recently offered at that price on the EE and took several bumps to sell. Also, if modern 10-15 year old epoxy finish MKIII's are going for 600-650 I'm thinking more like $700-750 might be it. The rubber Pachmayr may attract some but I think still more would be budgeting an additional $60-70 for something like Hougue wood replacement grip. They would give give it a more traditional Browning HP look. (I'd include myself in the latter group but that's just a matter of personal taste.)

One more thing....what comes with it will also influence the value. Original case and papers? factory mags? one? two? etc etc

Condition also matters a lot and your photos aren't high enough res to get a really good idea about that.

Necro-thread revival! (kind of). Does anybody have current pricing on the hard chromed BHPs? I have a line on one that looks to be in good-Very good shape.Possibly an Israeli surplus. Not interested in US pricing as they have different trends than we do on certain types of guns.

I just thought that with the end of production the prices might start to get stupid.

No, I can't see that making much difference for many, many years. The Browning roll marked commercial Hi Powers were sold in North America for over 60 years andin recent years dealers were hard pressed to move them at the $1200-1300+ list price. I think you can probably still find BNIB examples in some dealer's inventory. If anything I think that late model used MK III Hi Powers probably sell at greater discount to new prices than many other guns.
