Stoner 63: a Miculek video.

Rob arms M96 does look pretty much the same. I don't think the parts are interchangeable though and the stoner 63 has a lot of differences, the look is its main similarity.

Yup very nice gun! I would have rather seen Rob Arms update the M96 and continue selling it instead of building the XCR. Although I do own a XCR-L in .223/x39 and it seems to be a fairly good gun I would rather have got a M96 from them.

Holy fack!!! That is crazy, full auto one handed. Recoil of a .22 or less just spitting bullets. Just wicked.

I shot the KAC LMG in a few 3 gun matches and used to do demo's shooting it on chest plates to 300m like an AR -- it's super light, and incredibly controllable.

We still have the tooling for the Stoner 63A (Reed bought it when Cadillac Gauge went bankrupt) - sold a lot of parts to Robinson for them to make their M96 version as well.
I'm not the biggest 63 fan - but it is a cool weapon.

Whoa. I don't understand how it recoils so little, especially given that it's in full-auto and the gun is relatively light. Does it have some fancy system like constant recoil? Doesn't look like there is even a brake on it. I am interested in how they did this.

As I know almost nothing about this, I am curious what you don't like about the 63. Which other MG's are you more fond if and why? My knowledge of MG's is pretty slim.

I love me some Hk21...

The new M60E6 is a machine of true awesomeness as well -- not being an M60 guy, it has been interesting to learn about it's development (or mis-development) and the issues that where caused due to the manufacturing was done over three companies, not 1.

The 63 is a great tool for its day - the Colt CMG2 is another impressive RVN era gun that unfortunately died a painful death.

While modular is great for some things, the modularity of the 63 would have driven any logistician bonkers - their are around 26 variants of the 63A, from rifleman, to coaxial MG - at a certain point, I think it is important to see the diminishing returns.
I think you'd have ended up with Platoons of folks using the carbine in the belt fed mode, cause it was cool, not due to any requirement.
Also due to its modularity - it is pretty impossible to setup well for current requirements - since the receiver could be flipped over depending on feed method - the gun does not lend itself to modernizations (rail or attachment methods for combat enablers).

The LMG 86, LMG 99 and now LMG A1 (our 2013 and 2014 PIP) use run out - like the Ultimax, the recoiling parts do not impact the rear of the receiver - the moving parts simply are retarded by spring pressure and return into battery -- most LMG's/GPMG's do not have enough receiver space to do this, and the operating system collides with the rear of the receiver (Minimi etc).

I'm guessing the new M60 doesn't feature elements of the gas system tied together with chicken wire?
