Never really been attracted to the 7mm caliber but lately, i did zero a couple for some friends and family and did like it... After looking tru our sponsors, i did locate, a Sauer 101, a Sako, couple of Browning, and some Wheaterbys... At this time i dont intend to go the Remington way and i will not go entry level either, i have to say, the Sauer 101, i did locate at Epps sure is interresting... I know for a fact many hunter who hunt with it, would not hunt with anything else than a 7mm... JP.

It took me a long time to warm up to the 7RM but it's now a real favourite and the array of bullets available seems to be unmatched. We took one to Africa recently and made shots from 80-622 yards on animals from 40 pounds to 500 pounds. I'm a convert!

7X57MM Mauser: Wide bullet selection, low recoil & inherently accurate. Good for anything up to moose. If your as good as D.M. Bell, well then, elephants!

Most of my 7mm experience has been with the STW, but there's some with the Rem Mag and there's a 7/08 rattling around here somewhere too. When I add it up it comes to 25 years worth, which might explain the old guy who sneaks into my hunting pictures.

Pick a rifle you like, you can afford anything you want. As much as I like the STW the 7mm Rem is a good choice esp if you handload. I say that because there's so many factory loads that can't catch a 30-06. The RUM if you like buck and roar, and the STW for the enthusiast.

Its only fair that you warn the forum members before you try a 7mm, that way they can dump their .308s before you flood the market with them.;)

Epps just had a pair of beautiful Sako A III Finn Bear Deluxe rifles arrive in stock -- one in 7mm Rem Mag, and another in .375 H&H. Check out the listings on the Epps website for more details. One of these should suit your needs quite nicely!

Muh........7mm reminds me of the shevy small block 283.......highly rated and all schmoke/n mirrors.
Nutt'n like the terdy caliber to stopp'em short.

I have owned two 7mm-08 rifles, two 280AI rifles, three 7mmremmag rifles, five 7mmstw rifles, and a 7mmImperial mag, and my go to rifle today, is still a 7mmstw.

You'll love the Browning, specially when you try to strip the bolt. I've got one in 7 mag in pieces at my feet as I type, and I'd never own one. The nicest 7mm I ever owned was a Brno 600 with a pop up peep, in 7X57. I still don't know why I sold that thing. A 140 gr TTSX at 2900 just works. When I had my Ruger #1 in .416 Rigby, I intended to get another in 7X57, get it stamped .275 Rigby, so I could have a brace of Rigbys, but it never happened. I have a 7-08 Mauser in my gun safe, not sure what I'll do with it, and I've got a .280 Ackley barrel coming with my switch barrel rifle. I haven't shot many 7 mags, but there was a S&W 1500 (Howa) I played with one day, it shot. Oh, by the way, I've got a M-70 XTR barreled action sans bolt in 7 mag if you want something cheap and can find a bolt, stock, magazine and floorplate for it. I think its destined to be a jack handle.

Me too, when it comes right down to it. For my local hunting I can't think of a situation where I wished I were carrying something else, and plenty of times where I had something else and missed the STW.

Boomer, stumbled across this link while searching for some information for myself.
Not sure to what extent of disrepair your 7mm Bolt is, but hope this link is of some service to you.

Thanks, that's one of the better ones I've seen. I have all sorts of diagrams and instructions, but they sure over engineered that bolt! Too bad, because otherwise its a fine rifle, and the 26" barrel shines with the 7 mag.
