Pardon if a thread has been created for the subject.
The versamax tactical I got has magazine capacity of 4 plus 1 in the chamber ( for 2-3/4 shell at least), barrel marked 3" chamber. Is this how its suppose to be?

I bought it new as a tactical version from a sponsor dealer, it should hold at least 5 shells of 2-3/4 in the tube right out of the box. Just wondering other CGN'ers who bought the tactical version if they have the same tube that i have ( 4 x 2-3/4).

I bought the same one. There is a washer halfway up the tube blocking it to 4. I took the rotary tool to the washer to get it out then blocked the tube properly.

You need a magazine extension tube.

It is the Tactical model so the extension is already there.

The problem is as Chalk stated, there is either a washer stuck just below the extension or there is a cap (this is what I had) which was wedged in just below the extension.

First remove the extension. Once you have done that, you should see what is limiting the number of shells in the tube. Beat it out somehow and then plug the extension so that you can insert a max of 5.9 3" shells. Gives you a total of 8 2 3/4 rounds.

PM me if you have any questions.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...

Anybody figure out a way to limit the magazine for hunting game birds in Alberta? Capacity needs to be maximum of three rounds - including the magazine and chamber.

Would be really slick if there was an easy way to go back and forth from the max legal to 3.

Thanks

Easy!

Piece of wooden dowel. Cut to proper length, take mag extension off, put dowel in and screw the extension back on. This is how a lot of shotguns come right out of the box, and it doesn't need to be some permanent way to modify it, as long as it can only hold 2 shells in the mag tube, you're good to go.

Having thought about this a little more - the limit for bird hunting doesn't need to be permanent, but doesn't the mag limitation to <=5 need to be permanent to comply with the regulations?

What did you use to plug the extension to the 'proper' length?

Sorry - this was supposed to be a reply to F22_Raptor

Any smith's out there interested in doing this type of work? I'll send you mine as well to have it modified to the max limit and to have a plug made up that I can use for bird hunting.

Tactical Ordinance sells these guns and modifies them for 3 gunners. Casey is your contact, he is a very nice guy to deal with. I have purchased my Tactical from Casy (great price) and am waiting to get the modified gun back. His reputation preceeds him. He is in New Market I believe. I found out about TO from other guys that I shoot with.

So, it seems like there are at least two, possibly three methods of maxing out the magazine capacity for VMTs?

1. Washer method, or
2. Cap wedged just below the mag tube, or
3. Crimped mag tube preventing the follower from going into it:

Does anyone know if these were different year productions, were they done from the factory, or were the VMTs a special 3rd party import or something?

I just bought mine, and it only takes five 2-3/4 shells in the tube. There's no washer, there's no plug, just the crimped mag tube extension which the follower will not go into.

Of all the pictures I've seen with my limited google-fu skills, I haven't come across another with the crimped mag tubes. As you can see in the pics, it's not like you can flip the mag tube around because it's crimped on both ends.

First ones came and had a plug pop riveted.
Second batch had a washer loctited (if that is a word) between the coupler and the tube.
Third batch has crimps on both ends of the tube so that the follower cannot pass by and is the same if the tube is reversed.

I have seen all three.
