Help choosing a 10/22

I would like to have your input about my two choices of .22. It's my first rifle, mainly to target practice and plink a little bit. I've concidered a Marlin 795, but I ended up thinking i wouldn't mind paying a little bit more for a 10/22 with wooden stock.

Ruger 10/22 Sporter: 310$ tax included at Sail until september 21:

I'm open to suggestion/comments.
Do you guys think it's too much for a .22/first gun. Is stainless barrel a must on a 10/22 or blued is just as fine. Is recoil pad mendatory for comfort on this gun?

If it was me I'd go for a bolt action Ruger has a new "American" that is interesting..
Other than that it would be a CZ 452/455 but it's a few dollars more and a Bushnell Trophy scope would go nice with either.
 
Buy the cheapest 10/22 you can. Most people swap almost everything out anyway. So why spend an $80-$100 when you can put that towards parts.
Dont even get me started on the $600 sr22!
 
I have a bone stock carbine with a 3x9 scope, so far its been fantastic, no problems of any kind and its eats anything you feed it.

The one you want is the K10/22T or the tactical model that comes with the Hogue stock along with bipod. I like the deluxe model only because I'd change out the barrel with a SS match grade one for a classy looking target rifle. But that's another $200. The target model just needs a trigger job, good scope/rings and ammo to do well.
 
I'm a big fan of my Sporter. Nice to have the sling swivel studs and marginally better length of pull if you're not going to upgrade the stock. A note though is that the barrel is not free floated, but I did get the VQ bedding kit and did some work on the stock. Just a tall socket wrapped with sandpaper then finished with a few coats of polyurethane so the pressure pad in the VQ kit was the only thing touching other than the takedown screw. I also decided to go with the tsr200 tech sights with the large aperture instead of a scope. Perfect little walking around plinker. Happy shopping.
 
You can't go wrong with any model of 10/22, I love mine. The ones without the barrel band tend to be more accurate though. If it's a bolt action you want then go with a Savage mkII with accutrigger made in beautiful Lakefield Ontario. The 10/22 will eat all brands of .22lr while the marlin 795 (while more accurate) tend to be very picky.
 
Its all a crap shoot. Some guns are tackdrivers what ever model you buy. Then some arent. Just like some are picky with ammo and some arent.
Ammo effects grouping more than what the barrel is made imo.
 
First of all-not all 10-22s are the best & finest. (Others my say different) I have had many & accuracy was only OK. After I got a Rem. yellowjacket 597 I sold my last 10-22. I have however bought a 10-22 (sort of) reciently. It has a Boyds stock, VQ barrel & a couple other touches. A replacement hammer/trigger or as I did just stone the hammer, is needed to shoot well. Get a HB for sure or go as cheep as you can & upgrade stock, hammer, barrel and more if you want to. My Ruger with the VQ barrel will now outshoot my Rem.

I bought the sporter version from Sail at 15% off a few weeks back and I love it. The stainless/laminate version looks pretty cool though if you're not planning on putting an aftermarket stock on. For me, I bought a cheaper one because I know at some point it will get a stock.
 
stainless vs blued, the stainless isn't true stainless, but it does look nice. that's what I personally went with. Mine came with a camo synthetic stock. and i replaced that with a wood one.

synth vs wood is personal preference of course, but the wood is heavier. i was actually surprised at how much more so the wood stock made it feel that way.
 
Id rather a older 10/22, I got a Stainless ( receiver and trigger ) Blued ( barrel ) model. I just like stainless because it doesn't rust.
