As some may know by the plentiful threads asking about laws an shipping rules and most other things to do with Ruger stocks, I wanted to get a Synthetic for the Ruger.
Well today I went into a Gun store about 150k down the road an looked for .358 Interlocks, Yep they had them so all good. I noticed a stand with a few Plastic stocks hangin off it.. thought I may as well go through them.


I happen to find a Ramline, which said M77 30-06 moulded inside of it.... Now its no Ruger standard stock, but its make of the Same Schit at the end of the day.

Shape seems reasonable, feels fine, its a very hard material but what of it? I actually didn't notice a whooole lot of weight difference between the Hawkeye wood an this Ramline.

The plus side is the Ramline has a better Recoil pad on it :D might tame the beast a bit with the 250grainers.

I just wanted to post up an Say Thanks to everyone who helped out with the possibility of having to go through getting a stock via America via Canada... Cheers ;)

for the record. its just a m77 stock, obviously for mkii fits no drama in my hawkeye.
advertised $200 :eek:mg: explained im interested but can get it from the top of Aus for $145 plus freight.. got for $135.. Deal
 
what ever floats your boat .I prefer the Woodstock my self .a good sanding and a new coat she will be good to go .I can see were the tupaware stock can be usefull and I do have one shotgun that has a plastic stock my 535 turkey gun .as long as she shoots that is all that matters D

my reminder for when/if I get lost or stuck... reminder that bear grylls proberly would do it. its been there for 6 years or more now , an the little stickers just add a nice touch HAHA (and I got lost recently- read up on my 24 hour adventure in hunting thread)

Yup, don't get me wrong I like a Woodstock, I just want to tinker with the whelen while im out of action with a knee reco so il see how the synthetic goes, the wood will always be there.
I always pictured the rifle to be black on black, hence why I bought wood blued but I never got around to getting a stock for it, until today.

I'm not a fan of Ramline stocks, but if it works for you and is affordable its win win. If the Ramline stock proves to be a bit long for you, the recoil sensation might actually be worse than with the factory stock. If you do have to shorten the LOP, cut the stock accordingly, fill the butt cavity with spray foam, and epoxy a piece of plywood flush with the end of the stock, then once the epoxy has cured, glue and screw a Decelerator or Limb Saver recoil pad to the plywood.
 
Like Boomer said. These stocks can be a little noisy when dragging them through the bush. They are hollow so they have kind of a drum effect. Fill the butstock full of the spray foam and that goes away.
 
A Ramline is a base econo replacement synthetic stock. No illusions there.

That said, I put one on a vintage Rem 788 carbine in 7mm-08 quite a few years back. The original wood stock on the 788 was no longer usable so got trashed.

This was a Ramline back in the day when they came stock with a nice Pachmayr decelerator recoil pad installed.

With no other modifications, other than dropping in the 788 action in the Ramline stock my first range trip with this new combo had me sold on it. It required no further bedding or mods to have this combo shooting accurately.

Maybe I just lucked out but my 788 has been living in the Ramline ever since.

They are what they are, but if it works for you & your rifle, that's all that counts.

I once had a Sporter swede in a Ramline stock... Horrible flex and it took quite a bit of inletting around the barrel to keep the forearm away from the barrel. But I hope it works out for you.

Yes they are light stocks and if one felt creative there is krylon paint.

Certainly did, A lot of people are freaking out over why I swapped stocks out, like its some kind of thing that cant be swapped straight back out down the road LOL, it was 3 Screws :)

Not here but more so the Aussies... but then again on that forum they are pretty sheltered..

I like the Woodstock an this was my only woodstocked rifle over .270 apart from the 303 & 375w but I just felt like a change over for a while an see how it fairs.

Interesting about the Wrist point breaking, Ive heard of that happenin on Abolt Eclipse with them thumbholes an will be sure to report IF it lets go.

I filed the sharp points down last night with a small file, aswell as the join lines around the wrist an under the trigger.

About to load up some rounds an see how it goes. I still have a few 225s which il shoot an see if recoil is better or worse.

I'm not fond of the ratline but I put them in the same category as the ruger synthetic sps the savages (non accustock) Tikka's and so on . I should add the A bolt synthetic also. The are all injection molded and are noisy and have a lot of for end flex depending on temperature. I took my T3 synthetic to africa and on a hot day the for end was a spaghetti noodle and shots were all over until i took out the pressure point. Wood is the nicest looking possibly followed by a laminate or a built up synthetic such as the Brown, wildcat MPI MaCmillan and a few others. Wood may loose its shine but gain character the only drawback is it may warp and apply unwanted pressure on the barrel. Laminate is very stable but heavier and can be very attractive. The top line composites are lighter and will likely reduce recoil and can be painted to the colors you want. The also are very stable. But there are differences in them all.I recommend avoiding any injection mold stock . and choose what turns your crank.

Type wood stock, seeing woodstock written as a single word momentarily sent me back to 1969 and Country Joe and the Fish!
 
Maybe yu'all izz sqweezing'em too tight when you aim at the fer....?

I do admit, the woodie looky soo much better in frunt the wood box........... :wave:
