I still like and use the OLD Weaver style rings. You know the kind. They just kinda hook on one side of the scope + there's a couple of screws on the other side to tighten them down. I have other types of rings as well, but , I just like that style + still use them on several of my rifles. I usually match them up with an older optic.
My .308 deer gun carries weaver mounts , and a Redfield 2 +3/4 power, Denver Colorado scope.
The old scope has the command post type reticle , and offers up quick target acquisition in the hardwoods at first + last light. Any other fans of the old weaver style rings out there? Or , am I a dinosaur ?
 
I am not personally a fan of the old weaver rings, though I do kind of like a set of weaver pivot mounts I have currently mounted on my Husqvarna 7x57. However, I certainly AM a fan of vintage scopes! Especially with post and crosshair reticles....my collection is slowly growing.

I purchase them cheap at gun shows and use them as needed around here.
I have found a way to spread the legs a wee bit so the slide over the scope tubes without marking/scratching them.
Dead blow hammer, piece oh plywood and lay the top rings belly down.
Rap them with the soft faced mallet slightly and see if they will slide over my 1" stainless rod.
Rap as necessary and then voila.........ready to use summore.
Just don't over tighten them is awl.
 
Yeah. I know there is much better, stronger , newer ,options available, and I wouldn't put them on anything with alot of recoil.
But I just like em on those older scoped / older rifle combinations . I have a set on my mossberg 146b . Old scope , old mounts , old rifle. Alot of my guns are alot older than me. I'm not a stainless steel , synthetic stock kinda guy. lol To each their own though !
 
They're pretty solid and they do somewhat work as a QD mount, but that's where the good stuff ends. It usually takes several trial and error attempts to align the crosshairs as having the screws on one side always twists it as you tighten and they're about the worst for marking up a tube.
Basically, there's a reason they cost $20, but I'd still choose them over the regular Leupold/Redfield system any day.
 
I have had and seen newer style rings fail...the weavers have never really given me a problem.

If they work then carry on using them.
 
Yeah, why hasn't weaver upgraded to hex heads? Yes dinosaur, I guess you're stuck in your ways, Lol. Newer is better, I won't use those ever again. Twisty, scratchy, and non-grippy.
 
I use more of them than any other type. They are tiresome to install but once set up they work as they should.

This would be me as well.
I use a strip of Scotch tape on the inside of the rings when I install and find that there's no scope slippage or marks left on the scope if it's removed

Glad I'm not the only one!
I've put on so many of those rings over the years that I can get the crosshairs straight on the first screw tightening! Woo, skills!
 
Triggerman, if you like Weaver they do make new style rings now. I have them on my 7mm rem mag. They're use torx hex type screws with locktite pre-applied.
 
let me guess, weavers are probably the first rings you ever used. you need to look at the meaning of your attachment to these faulty rings.
