Questions about DD MK18?

So I want to buy my first restricted rifle, I am currently only a member at a small indoor range. So I want to buy a small length carbine for now, then I will get into the longer range stuff next spring when I apply to an outdoor range. From what I have looked at I like the DD MK18. My local store has one in stock but I am pretty sure its older, as it does not have their new soft touch overmolding and the new style stock. Im not sure what other differences there are between the newer ones, but its not on sale or anything so at $1700 I think Id rather find the new one somewhere. Id even consider the new mil spec + color they offer....

So any comments on this rifle, and where I can get one for a good price? Or even any other suggestions for a similar short length rifle? It will be a project and obviously get tons of add ons, so that is also something to consider it wont be stock for long. I like the FDE/tan look so I want to build something like this

And if anyone owns one, please post your pics!

DD doesn't put out garbage, and their factory assembled guns are a safe bet. Lots of user reviews of the DD Mk18 are out there.
I have a DD 11.5" barreled AR (got it before the DD Mk18 was available up here), and it's great. If you like short AR's, the Mk18 is a gem, and it's the absolute minimum barrel length I would go for a 5.56/.223.

The lower started on a M4V3 but I have since moved that upper. I bought the MK18 upper with the vert grip, MB556 and ACOG from the EE here.
All the ambi parts are from site sponsors.
About $4k including optic and extras.

Where did you buy from? Im looking for a supplier that actually has them in stock, or can give me a date....Im not into that buy now and who knows when you will get it kinda deals

Check Canadammo, they had some for a good price... I bought mine from Wanstalls, bu i think is out... JP.

Price is on par could be found for a bit less if your persistent.I prefer the Older models just not a fan of the new furniture

Is that the only difference? I am 100% sure Id be swapping out the stock and grip anyways, so if thats the only diff Id just go buy the local one....Its faster, last gun I bought from them I bought it Fiday night, and they called me monday at 12 to tell me I can pick it up...$200 is worth waiting, but I have never bought a gun online yet

It's pretty easy to buy online and depending on where you're locate you can save on tax. With the money you save you can buy acessoiries or get a nice Geissele trigger.

I still have my Geissele SSA-e brand new uninstalled, the original MK18 trigger did smooth out soooo good, i dont need to change it, the trigger is just perfect giving the rifle a surprising accuracy... JP.

I do believe that the Soft Touch furniture is the only difference and maybe the flash hiders as well.
If you plan to change it anyways definitely go with what is available the quickest.
