Well, I went for a little walk yesterday. Got this little guy from 25 yards right in the throat, I think my first kill with my .22......
Good times Saturday

Went out Friday after work with the 12ga O/U, two flushed and one landed visibly in a nearby tree. I was able to get him. 2 more flushed later on in the walk, couldn't find where either of them went.

I decided to go sight in my .22 today and since I was already in the bush went for another walk. Saw a ruffy right away but he took off, and later found a spruce which I was able to get.

A good start. Looking forward to more walks this fall!

Up in Gowganda at the moment and we have managed to get two in the last two days. Weather is awful but the bird population sure does seem to be low right now,

Just got back from Gowganda on Saturday. Bird population is low compared to last year and we got mostly spruce this trip. Ruffed where very rare. We hunted out of Long point Lodge. Great time though.

Well, logged about 9 hours of walking with my daughter and nephew between Saturday and Sunday. My nephew got the 1 on Saturday, and we saw a second bird well down the trail on Sunday, but he high tailed it before we could get anywhere near close enough for a shot. So, in all, we saw a grand total of two birds for the weekend.

I shot 8 Ruffies on opening day. Two of us got 10 yesterday. Northern SK.

Seems to be lots around up here this year. Went with a buddy on Sunday and we each got 5 ruffies. Saw a handful of spruce grouse as well, but just chased them off the road so others wouldn't shoot them. I have a soft spot for the poor old spruce grouse

^huh?

The hunting license does not favor one over the other. And every hunter pays the same amount of cash for the same upland critters.

You sir, are not playing straight up IMHO.

I'll be heading north with my Vizsla for 4 days this week, can't wait!

Gotta get my little guy out too. Can't trust him yet to not get hit by a car or chase deer though. Saw lots last year here in SO but they are so skittish they are almost impossible to get a bead on. Hopefully this year I'm ready for them.
