Just about to head out in a new area for grouse hunting in an area we just worked in. While working in the bush, we ran into moose, wolves, coyotes and bears.. and tons of grouse.

I'm bringing my .22 for the grouse, and my 12g with slugs on my shoulder for protection. Can I legally have slugs in the tube (not chambered), or do I need to pack them separately?

In general, the only firearms allowed for wilderness protection are non-restricted rifles and shotguns. The following individuals, provided they are Canadian residents and have a licence that allows them to possess restricted firearms, may be authorized to carry a handgun or restricted long gun for wilderness protection:
- From the RCMP website. Just need to know if I can have rounds in the tube.

The key words in that is MAY BE AUTHORIZED...... It doesn't say.... IS AUTHORIZED

Unless you have big game tags I don't think your allowed to have them at all.
In Alberta he can

Check your regs to see if you can have 2 guns while hunting.. you cant in bc unless one is rendered inoperable
This^
The same stands for Alberta.
In Alberta you can only have one operable shotgun available for use while hunting migratory birds as per Federal regulations, he’s hunting upland birds so that regulation does not apply.
Cone_Skid, yes you can carry your 22 and shotgun at the same time and yes you can have them both loaded, while on foot.

Nothing precludes you from carrying any non restricted gun in the bush at any time, in Alberta, unless it is specifically prohibited.

Grizz

Where did you dig this up?? I'm going to call BS, I've asked our local CO about caring two LOADED guns while hunting and the answer is YES YOU CAN!
Cone_skid_cone, if you want to walk with loaded guns, go ahead providing you're in an area where you can legally discharge the firearms.

Just use the 12ga on the grouse and shot a bit high over their heads. A few pellets aren't going to hurt you unless you chomp hard on them :p

I've been hunting in BC for over 20 years and have been checked or stopped many many times while hunting and target shooting.
while hunting I carry a centerfire rifle for deer/moose ect and a .22LR for small game. I've never been questioned or charged for having 2 operational firearms at the ready either in the vehicle or on my quad.
can you provide a link to where BC laws contradict my experiences...... I've been thru game checks and in the field stops by CO's and never had one even comment on the fact that I had 2 operational firearms at the ready.....
not saying it's not true...... just perhaps not enforced?

Only thing you gotta watch is the shotguns capacity regarding the hunting laws. If you have a shotgun that takes more than 2 rounds better make sure all you have is slugs.

Thanks for all the feedback and replies! I ended up getting tied up with chores today, but tomorrow I plan to hit the bush early. I'll be in Crown land with my shotgun and rifle, both loaded. If I run into any issues, I'll make sure to update the thread specifying what happened.

Haha you say issues and two loaded guns in the same sentence. I fail to see you having any "issues" . have fun.
