so I was looking through the 3 gun rig thread and I noticed a lot of pistols I would almost never see at ipsc matches. no where near as many 1911s, 2011s, and cz/tanfoglios as I might have thought.

just curious, do 3 gun shooters generally use more glocks m&ps hks... or is the thread just not very representative?

is it possible they are just more tactical by nature?

just curious

There appears to be more than one flavour of 3 ' gun.
Some shoot it with duty gear... Some use fancier stuff.

3gunners tend to use more real life use pistols .. don't see too many cz / tangflios / 1911 selected / used by leos and military these days.

lol, its really not to be more tactical, most of the time it is either all the people have or if they are serious about getting every extra advantage its because there is no safety to flip on or off so you can just throw it in a dump bucket and forget about it.

After ROing the FNH match last week I echo the sentiments of Onagoth. The top shooters use 2011s in 9mm. There is zero advantage to using .40 I did see a fair share of Suped up Glocks and a fair number of CZ75s.

Netcon I am very curious as to where you have done the bulk of your 3 gun shooting to make your statement.

STI Marauder - built for the game. 9mm only, big mags, etc.

Just wondering what the advantage is for getting the 2011 over the 1911 in 9mm here in Canada?
I think you can get 9 or 10 rd capacity not too extended mags for the 1911 now, in 9mm at least.

Bigger magwell opening to lower the reload fumble factor, bigger grip size if that's what you need (although there are grips for the 1911 to mimick a 2011 grip size).

When (not if) you end up going to the US to shoot a match, you have increased capacity.
If you only ever limit yourself to Canadian matches, you are missing out on a tonne of 3gun fun.

2011s as far as I know are like barbie for men, you can literally change evrything on the gun. Aftermarket support is huge in the us as well

LOL, its because they already have and or its cheap, real life use pistol = 1911 45acp

I just switched away from a M&P to a Shadow, and night and day difference.

And, I put wood grips on it, so, F you plastic. All metal now, and it's fabulous.

Striker fire pistols is the most I've seen - Glocks and M&P. No safety or to deal with, lots of aftermarket parts & AFFORDABLE. Standard mags 17+ rounders easily available so good for US and CAN.

Hammers - most popular I've seen is 2011. But out of my price range. With the gun, mags and any mods, looking at 3K plus range.

I would like to use a 1911, but capacity is an issue when shooting in the US. Unless you shoot heavy.

I think a shadow or tang would be a great alternative if you cannot afford a 2011.

....Glocks and M&P. No safety or to deal with, .

Coming from a guy who shot a glock for years and then switched to a metal DA/SA gun, I can honestly say this is a non-issue. It is (and was by me) sometimes over-emphasized as a reason to go with a striker fired gun....but it doesn't save anything actually.
