Hunting boots

I wear Lacrosse Alphas, insulated and uninsulated for my rubbers and Meindls for my leather gore-tex walking boots. There is no single choice for hunting, no point in trying.

I just picked up the Danner High Ground 8" 1000g boots. I haven't worn them out yet, but so far I've been impressed by the quality and comfort of the boots. I wasn't really sure what to expect cost wise when looking at boots. Most seemed pretty high. I was looking at this boot, or the Under Armor Speed Freek. My decision was made by the fact that WSS didn't have the Speed Freeks in a size 11. I'm actually quite excited to take these boots out in the field.

1000g is quite a lot.
Must be really cold where you're hunting.
My pac boots are only 1400g

I know. I ended up saying screw it when the 400g boots weren't in stock and went with the 1000's. I figure there is a chance that I'll be hunting in the cold as I've got deer tags for a mountainous region.

Right on guys I think those of you who said one boot doesn't do it all make a good point. Saturday morning goose hunting proved to have lots of dew and wet feet/pants. I was leaning away from the rubbers but after walking out of the field soaking we they may not be a bad idea. The ones from CT are catching my eye the price is right. It would free up some money to go towards a pair of hikers as well.
Thanks for the info

I'm trying to buy a new pair right now too, but looking for 13 EE is proving hard online in Canada.

1st choice Danner Canadians, impossible to find in Canada...anyone know otherwise?
2nd choice Irish Setter Elk Tracker 600g or 1000g, available.

I know I will end up with a new pair of rubbers too, these leather boots won't cut it for ducks, but damn they look comfortable.

Mauser, as Slick Willie once said "Ah kin feel yore pain."

OP, my lifetime luckiest buy in the footwear department was a pair of Le Chameau 'Chasseur' boots. High, natural gum rubber and lined with top quality leather. They've held up for some 20 years now. I hunt in some shallow-swampy country and these allow me to travel far and easily. Got mine seriously on sale, but if they were to disappear I'd have to consider buying a pair at the full price, which is around $450 last time I looked. With orthotics slipped in, they're the only Wellies I could walk comfortably in all day, very form fitting. Sail sells them in Canada, got mine at Orvis in the USA.

I bought a pair of the Muck insulated rubber boots at bass pro the ones you roll down to get into then roll up.
Very impressed. ! Easy to walk in. Don't steal my socks down into the toes.
Used all last winter ice fishing power auger splashing all over them. Bone dry warm feet -20 -30 no problem.
Good luck

I've had nothing but good luck with my Irish Setter Elk Trackers over the past 4 seasons, which is longer than any other hunting boots have lasted me. They keep me dry (even when ice fishing in the slush), broke in quickly, and are relatively light, not to mention more comfortable than most pairs of slippers. My brother just got some Danners (unsure of the model), but they seem to be a quality boot as well.

Same as Big Bad.

Le Chameau Chasseurs ... now in about their 15th year and still going strong. Worn them for everything ... deer & moose hunting, field hunting for pheasant,
grouse & woodcock hunting, winter sporting clays & skeet, even wore them in Cuba for a couple of quail & dove hunts. Not the best for stationary stuff like ice-fishing
but otherwise quite comfortable in most weather conditions for walking.

If I were to be heading into the 'Big Rocks' out west, I'd also look at something like Meindls.

A couple of buddies are happy with their Muck boots. Tried them on ... & may consider a pair for this winter.

I am on my 3season with my Irish setter Elk trackers. Best boots I have ever used. 4 buddies I hunt with bought them after I recommend they try some on
