22lr shortage in Winnipeg?

I went to cabellas in Winnipeg yesterday and they only had a few packs of 22lr in 50 round boxes, they said they were all sold out. They also mentioned the Americans are buying most of it....Sheesh...On the bright side I went to Walmart and bought the last brick (500rnds) of Yellow Jackets for 18.99!! Not sure if the lady scanned it wrong or if Walmart has the best deals on 22lr ammo!
 
The issue of a 22 ammo shortage has been on going for quite some time now , and it seems to be a regional problem in Canada ; some areas have all kinds of 22 ammo for sale , other areas has a shortage.....I guess it is best to buy it cheap , and stack it deep if you are a high volume 22 ammo user.....

I don't believe there has ever been this hard of a run on the 22LR. I could easily be wrong on that one though. As far as why it's happening, I believe it's been traced to panic buying in the states, I don't know why specifically people are hoarding.

Some say Obama, some newtown and so on.

I bought four of these the day they came in as they weren't too keen to sell me an entire box/crate or whatever they come in...pretty sure it's a big box.
I did notice that they (Garden City CT) had a metric #### ton of 50 round boxes on the shelf at maybe $3-$5 a box?
Either way, I went through all four boxes that weekend.

The 525 round bricks that Peavey Mart had were around $25 a box and seemed to work just fine in the 715T.

333's or 222's?

The CT's here in and around Toronto that sell ammo have the 222 packs for $12.99 and the 333 packs for $18.99.

I was fortunate enough to just pick up 5000 rounds of winchester in the 555 packs privately for around $15 a box.

Certainly there's a good bit of panic hoarding going on. Add to that a general swelling in the numbers of gun owners (and therefore more general demand), a depressing number of crooks buying up as much as they can, only to sell it for 10x the price online, and the ever-present small group of people who just have to have a literal BILLION rounds on hand...

The whole supply chain is overstressed, and we're stuck hunting for ammo as a result.

I went to Fishing World in Hamilton today to buy rings and they have NO .22 ammo at all. They told me CCI had told them they haven't made any ammo in 6 months because they can't buy powder. I called Al Simmons and they only have subsonic CCI ammo, but I didn't ask about other brands though. Makes me with I had got 1000+ more rounds last year.
 
I keep hearing about this "ammo shortage" from the sale staff, but cmon. It happens every year around this (hunting) season.

Must be coincidence that no store actually orders it in bulk but at a couple thousand rounds at a time. (that's one way to ensure customers after hunting season)

Its annoying, but I spend winter restocking my ammo.

Fishing World (Banner Sponsor) said they haven't had any .22 in the last 6 months so it isn't just because of hunting season. During hunting season last year the stores in Hamilton were fully stocked with .22 so there is definitely a shortage.
 
When I was at the sunova show, someone said some americans bought $10,000 worth of 22 ammo at Cabelas. I was wondering if they were able to bring it back to states and for resale.
 
Still waiting for someone in Winnipeg to get some stock in. An by stock I mean boxes of 500 plus. Almost out of my Remington gold bucket of bullets. If anyone see any shoot me a PM lol
