I want to pick up a somewhat budget friendly, reliable hunting rifle.

I'm looking in the $700~ range +-$200 or so.

The 3 I'm tossing around are the tikka t3, cz 550, and the howa hogue kryptek.

preferably all in stainless where available.

also in white camo/krytech is prefered

I'm thinking in 308 as its an all around good round and easy to find and I can take any size game with it inc moose. If you can convince me of another round size I may be willing to consider.

I just want something easy to come by, inexpensive relatively to shoot $1 a roundish.

The tikka would be my choice of those 3. I will be getting the new CTR (when they are available) with the set trigger and putting it in a chassis for hunting. 308 is a great choice in caliber for most north american game.

They're all good. Pick the one that feels best for you, if you can get to handle all of 'em at least. Best way is to try each on the range and in the field, but that's up to your connections & or budget.

Dunno, don't see the S2 in that line up.
Would be great to see a shewt owt t'ween the S2 and T3.
Short and long distances..........say up to 500 y/m's.

Other: new production Winchester Model 70 or Ruger Hawkeye. You won't find one in camo, but you could have the stock hydrodipped if you want. You might catch one on sale, or watch the EE.

Both available in stainless, and more character than the Tikka. Nothing wrong with your three original choices though.

I have both but I don't hunt out to 500 or worse yet have access to a range with that distance.
So it would have to be 200 or 300 max...

Commercial hunting rifles are pretty much all the same. Don't think you're going to get .308 factory hunting ammo for a $1 a shot though. Mind you, I haven't used any factory cf ammo for eons.
You'll need to add some money for a scope too. Other than Savage combos(any one of those would do nicely), most commercial hunting rifles don't come with sights.
Your choices will eat your entire budget with no sights. Epp's is listing a Savage Axis with a synthetic stock and a 3-9 scope at $382.80. The rest of your budget can be put towards a higher end scope or stock. They're listing a .30-06 M116 TROPHY HUNTER XP with a Weaver 3 to 9 scope at $706.15, too, if you're interested in an '06. Ammo runs the same costs.

308/30-06/270, etc and most popular hunting ammo can be right around $26/20 for the inexpensive stuff. If you're just plinking, American Eagle FMJ is $23/20.

I'd say go with the Tikka if you were me. Since its you, I say go with whichever gun fits you best right off the rack. Its not like you are going to the have the stock fit to you afterwards and a good fitting rifle will shoot better every time.
