Was out with my 590a1 this Sunday trying out all the modifications (nothing rattled loose thankfully).

We shot mostly birdshot on steel plates, however I brought out some milk jugs filled with water. We all busted at any unique ammo we had.

I used some Hornady critical defence 00 buck. With the tight flite, the damage was devastating.

From what I saw of some other ammo it was definitely one of the best. I'm thinking this is my go to for wildlife protection.

What's everyone else using? Anything spectacular?

I was trying out 12g loads this same weekend and was also impressed by the critical defence 00buck. I compared it with S&B 00buck 2 5/8" shells, and the pattern difference was substantial. At 25yd, the S&B gave me a 10-12" empty ring whereas the Hornady CD put all the shot in a tight, fist-sized cluster. This from a 20" cylinder bore.

I'd trust the Hornady to stop a bear.

Still trying different slugs, but so far I like the Federal reduced recoil and Fiocchi slugs.

Hornady 00 and 4 buck with the versatite wad is the best match for a 590A1. 00 is effective until about 40 yards.

Use Hornady with versatite or Federal 00 with Flitecontrol. S&B 00 is also pretty good in the 590 for the price. I've had good luck with pretty much any slug.

For me its my dwindling supply of 3" Brenneke 600 gr slugs, and Hevi-Shot 3" 12 pellet 00 buck. I've heard good things about Priairie Shot's slugs, and will have to give them a try next time I head south.

Winchester PDX1 Defender rounds...12 Gauge ( Contains: 1-oz. rifled slug and 3 00-buckshot pellets). In a 12.5 Grizz magfed she packs some serious PUNCH.

The Prairie Shot/Score slugs, as best I can tell, are an almost perfect clone of a Brenneke Slug.
Granted, I've never had any true Brenneke's myself but I have dismantled a Score Slug and it looks like the same construction of a Brenneke from images and reviews I have seen.

I found a couple 3" 000 buck. I think they're Remington, hopefully they do some damage. Probably won't get out for a bit so I put them aside incase some pumpkins need exterminating in October.

Brenneke from rottweil. They are the new manufactured ones and look like they hurt. They are a pissed off version of a slug. Functionnal art really. Functional is a severe understatement. The things that happened to 2L bottles at 50 yards were devastating. I need to stock up on these.

About a dozen years ago (when it was legal) I bought four boxes of Brenneke Black Magic slugs at a Gander Mountain store down in the Excited States. I traded one box to my landlord (out of the goodness of my heart) and have about twelve rounds remaining ... hopefully a lifetime supply. I've never had a reason to actually use one yet, although I've wasted one or two.

My shotgun is a Marine Magnum ... totally stock except for a great little slip-on Tru-Glo lime-green front bead ... $20 well-spent. :)

Those Hornady "Critical Defence" 00 Buck shotshells sound interesting ... does anybody know where they can be purchased in southern Alberta?

I wonder if they're identical to these shells on the Cabelas Canada website?
