Cold bore first round going high...suggestions? SOLVED!!

Shoot the hell out of it. I'm telling ya. your barrel need a bit of stress relief. You'll probably have fun doing it.

If you have another gun - use it until you sort out your 1st round hiccup. I never take a rifle out for a hunt that isn't dialed in to my satisfaction. Confidence in one's rifle - beats luck every time, while under the blood rush of seeing freezer meat close at hand.

OK...easy solutions to "simple" problems...yes, my action bolts were properly torqued down...AT FIRST! For some reason they were loosening themselves off after only a few rounds...I've never had that happen before...I should have re-checked them sooner.

I went to take the stock off to start the bedding job and the screws were finger tight...torqued them down, went to the range and the problem was gone.
Rounds 1, 2 and three were in a nice little group.
When I got home and checked the torque again it had already backed off a bit.
Blue locktite has solved the problem...I'll bed the rifle after hunting season anyway.
Thanks for all the advice!

Whale Oil, Beef Hooked!

Amazing!!

I noticed my Ruger middle screw was loosening it self, I applied nail polish to them all an done em up.... so far all good, locktite is better option of course.

Glad you are Dialled in fer huntin season
