I've been spending a fair bit of time these days with my Cooper M52 JG 280AI topped with a Swaro Z5 3.5-18x. Been getting ready for an antelope hunt early Nov. so getting practice in from field positions.
My other hunting rifle is a Win M70 FN model FW in 30-06 topped with a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x 40mm
The Cooper was a special rifle for me as or marked a an an achievement in my career. Probably will be the most expensive setup I have (although close to the Shiloh Sharps I plan to put an order on when I drive through Big Timber, MT in the fall ha ha!)
I must say, while I love the Cooper and the high end Swaro glass, the Win is a fine find rifle in comparison. Yes the group size is just under an inch vs 0.25" and the trigger is far from the Cooper trigger but damn! I wonder how they can make this fine a rifle for about a 1/3 of the price. I reduced the trigger weight a tad with a $10 spring from Ernie the Gunsmith. Think it sits at 2.5 lb now which is quite decent.
I'm pondering a Kimber one of these days in a .270 as I'm told it is a slightly finer version of a Win 70 with a better trigger and not that much more money.
Must admit though you can put together quite the hunting rifle and scope for under $1500. Really wish they hadn't gotten rid of the old Zeiss Conquest line. Something about that scopes eye relief and reticle fits me even better than the Swaro! Hoping the 3-15x and 5-25x do not disappoint as I plan to top a future Kimber or Win 70 .270 with one of them.
