I just got done sighting in my new AR 15 build. I am happy with every thing so it will be staying in this configuration for along time. I might add a 3X magnifier but I am not sure if I really need it our not.
the truglo turkey red dot is spot on. I was able to get one mag or 5 rounds into the same hole. I recommend this $90 reddot to any type of shooter on any budget.

just 25 yards. I'm not sure if i should keep the zero at 25 or 50 yards? our club has targets at 25-50-100-200-300 yards.

25-50 yards are for rimfire and pistol shooting....

Not so.
For using the improved batte zero with A2 iron sights or the original 25 meters battle zero, it is an excellent distance to zero any AR15.
Because of the ballistics of the the cartridge and the rifle together it's an excellent distance to zero them if you know what you're doing.

You know that though, I see your negative comments every time anyone posts a grouping on here.....

You can zero at 100 and know the drop at 5 yards (usually 2-2.5 inches) will decrease until you get to 100 yards.

It's easier to judge what is 2 inches low (POI) on a target that is right in front of you vs, figuring out what is 7 inches high 100 yards away.

These numbers are based on an effective 16 inch barrel length though so you would have to figure out what is actually happening with that stubby.

Plastic lower?

25 yard zeroing when used to get on paper at 100m and further is fine.....shooting groups at 25m or 50m with a centerfire rifle is pointless to me as it is far to close to determine the rifles capability or your own....and I don't think that is setting the bar very high using 100m as a minimum distance. There should be a minimum accepted basic skill level when shooting centerfire....

i'll just keep my zero at 25 for now. maybe I will set my back up sights for 100 yards.if I ever get a chance to go to an indoor range I will sight in the laser but for now its just there for looks.

the lower is hybrid, metal reinforced polymer.

I'm just sighting my gun in. not hunting with it. its a 10.5 CQB not a big game gun.
also lots of people belong to indoor ranges any they are almost never over 50 yards. were do you want them to go to shoot there rifles?

Did you not say "our club has targets at 25-50-100-200-300 yards".....
I dunno man, if you are just wasting ammo and killing time for fun, have at er....
If you are actually serious about learning HOW to shoot, then you need to challenge yourself and practice basic fundamentals and stretch the range out. There are 12 year old kids in junior programs here that shoot irons with .22's at 25m & 50m and groups can be covered with a dime. Target Pistol matches are 25m and 50m depending on the discipline. There are milshoots locally where its irons and 4 different shooting positions at 100m then a mad minute at 200m where some competitors are 70+ years old. Swiss Rifle club shoots 300m with irons....service rifle matches out to 500m.....you get the picture.

Hitzy has a point but why he chooses to be abrasive in his comments is beyond me.

OP - nothing wrong with a 25 zero depending on what you are doing and 5 rounds in one hole is a good thing even at a close distance of 25 yds. Enjoy your build and shooting it.

If you do feel shooting well at distance, by all means look into it. Marksmanship is a fun challenge. Good luck, shoot straight, shoot safe and shoot often. (and blow off the negative nancys that seem to enjoy crapping on others in this sub-forum)

50/200 is a awesome zero for 223/556 its what I zero for. 100 meter zeros suck for speed on target

so for my comp guns 50/200 is the fastest way for me to hit with very little thinking out to 300 meters!

and same with my truck gun dead yote from muzzle to 200 by just putting the dot( 2moa Aimpoint pro/micro)

way to many shooters think there AR's are a sniper rifle( some are most are not)

I agree with Jamie. I use the 50/200 for all around goodness. You don't have to think much and be within a couple of inches.

I have one ar15 with a 100 zero because the scope I have on it is calibrated for drop at that zero.

but there is a very good argument for a 25 zero for an sbr if most of your shooting will be close up.

Ive been using a 50/200y zero for as long as I can remember....but 50y in reality is only for getting on paper....my actual zero is verified at 200y and I wouldnt be impressed with those kind of groups
