Hey, Got a new sks today unissued, Took it apart and noticed there is a slanted cut or chip in the top back of the gas tube metal, Looks like where the leaver comes down to lock in place. Its a russian sks. Is this normal? Should i take it back. Im not able to upload pics at the moment but im sure someone will know what im talking about.

Every SKS I own has that same cutout, some it's bigger than others. If it wasn't there, the handguard lever wouldn't be able to lock down.

whole sale sports has em on sale for 179.99

Thanks for the help guys.

One more question, Mine didnt come with the spring under Neath the trigger that pops it up, is this important and can i get it?

I think you mean, unissued after arsenal refurbishment. True unissued Sks's are rare as hens teeth right now. The early 1949-52ish sks's didn't come with the spring safety. It is a friction fit for the safety lever.

so is that why my trigger set up wouldn't pop up lol. Do you think if i bought one or made one out of a spring from somthing i could fit it so the trigger assembly pops out? i have a 1953. IF it dosent effect shooting i don't care.

whole sale sports claimes "The SKS rifles that we sell are unissued, military surplus." in a email. You could be right tho, I wouldn't know...my Finnish seems kinda sloppy in some spots, I may need to do light sanding one day.. but the barrel is blued i think. ill post some pics when i can.

No offense, but WSS are far from experts on any topic. Even that of which they facilitate to customers.

All the SKS's being sold at Wholesale, Canadian Tire and the like are all arsenal refurbished. That is what is available now. They are marketed as unissued, but that is unissued after arsenal refurbishment. If you post a picture of your SKS we can let you know for sure. But I would guess it is a honey colored laminate stocked SKS with what looks like a black parkerized finish, but is actually a refurbishment paint used on a percentage of the SKS's at refurb by the Russian refurbishment arsenals. There will be nothing wrong with it, and it should make a great shooter, but is not likely to be an unissued original.
