Hi ,i have a zastava commerical m98 ( m70) rifle i have not fired it ,its a new rifle .Dose anyone have any info about this rifle .I know its built to look like the model 70 Winchester and its a very nice looking rifle for the price, are they comparable to the model 70 Winchester .What can i expect in regards of accurcy and so on

Zastava's are a basic mauser 98, but then the Model 70 is also. What you have is a mauser 98 action with a Model 70 safety, so you dont have to mount the scope high to clear the wing safety.

They are good commercial mausers, relatively inexpensive and good value. Largest "problem" with them is plain wood, but you are buying a entry level gun. Most people who buy them are satisfied by the accuracy, however, each rifle is a individual in this regard. Zastava has been building firearms for decades and their firearms were commonly re-badged and sold by other makers much like automakers do today. Common "Z" guns are Interarms Mark X, Remington 798, and i believe Charles Daly.

Actually, it has nothing to do with the Winchester M/70, it is patterned after the FN Supreme Mauser introduced in 1956. It's a real M/98, the civilian development of the K98 action. It's also the same basic action as used by the Canadian Snipers since the '80s...
The "70" refers to the moment where they started producing sporting rifles (about '74). Beyond many other brand names, it was the Remington 798 for some years. The stock of the recent manufactred ones is based on the standard Remington 700 stock shape.

BTW, the Win M/70 is more of a spinn-off of both the Springfield and the M-17, both themselves being spinn-offs of the pre-98 Mausers.

thanks for all the info, what i was really wondering was what to expect from it in regards to accuracy. Will have to take it out this weekend an try it i guess. Its chambered in the 6.5x55 swedish round so im expecting that it will perform well

Make a search on the forum, there are several threads regarding accuracy / quality and all that will cover your needs.

At the moment I use 4 zastava's. One in 9.3x62 and the other 3 are in 8x57. All are capable of under 1 inch groups with my reloads. So far I have good results with all the zastava's I owned. Metal Quality Is good, wood is okay to good, you can have some plain jane wood stocks but there are also some nice figure of wood in others. I really like them I will probably buy a few more in the future in different calibers.
