So I got one of these rifles was wondering if any that has one was able to group the 20 grain ammo well I tried 2 boxes groups were bad. But the 25 grain groups well but I wanted to shoot the faster bullet . Any of you have the same trouble with this rifle ?

Mine shot the 25gn better than the 20 gn. I did a little work to mine and bedded it. I would have a look at the wedge that holds the trigger group in the rifle. The guys on rimfire central were finding a few of them that were loose. I've posted these before but here are the two bullet weights shot at 60 meters. I did shoot the 20 gn at 100 meters at a later date and it was around 1 1/4".

From the conversations on Rimfire Central, it seems like they're hit or miss on accuracy. The one I shot was a miss. 2"+ groups on average, with some that had flyers out to 3", and 1-2 groups out of 15 that got close to 1.5". Savage is working on it now.

I want to get the fluted blued heavy barrel but no one here can get them yet. I will order a Boyds Pro Varmint stock in Forest Camo. Hopefully it will be as good as the last one I had.

might be the winchester ammo too had a buddy cronograph the 20 grain some were 3100 fps and some were 2900 fps than the advertised 3000 fps might make a difference in accuracy to

Some people have had luck with that Winchester ammo, some not. Whether CCI, Federal, or any of the other manufacturers get on board, I'm not sure. They can't make enough 22LR and 17HMR to keep up with the current backlog in orders for rimfire ammo, so why build out a brand new production process for a new, untested round? Winchester at least had a good reason with using an existing nail blank parent case/process. I could be wrong.

I think you are correct. I also think companies are sitting back and waiting to see if this round will succeed or not. I think if Federal and CCI get on board you will see this round take off. There still seems to be issues with quality control on the part of Savage Arms. Not sure why a company would ship out sub standard products and not expect them to fail. The customer service the guys in the states have been receiving also seem to be less than adequate. I am a huge Savage fan and have been a little disappointed with the way this new rifle was put into the market but am patiently waiting for the bugs to get worked out.

I have the exact same issue as you! The 20 gn stuff is absolute ####E in my rifle, I'm getting 4" groups. The 25 gn stuff actually groups quite well. I'm getting around 1" or so at 100y. Kind of a shame. And to make matters worse, I have not been able to buy any ammo for it all summer, and now that I can get some, its ALL 20 gn....stupid. I'm considering selling my BMAG and buying the stainless heavy barrel model. And Im also considering breaking one of my "rules" and that's buying up all the ammo I can find if I do..... I hate it when guys hoard ammo. ;-( I was going to get a boyds varmint thumbhole, but I think i'll wait till I sell it and get the heavy bbl version....

The guys on Rimfire Central seem to be having some of the same issues with the heavy barrel guns. I personally am waiting until the heavy barrel blued fluted comes up here. By then they should have most of the bugs worked out. My buddy hounded me to sell him my first B Mag to the point where I gave in and he paid me what I bought it for. I still have 4 boxes of 25 and 4 boxes of 20 gn ammo in my stock pile when I get another one.

Mine was showing considerable vertical stringing so I suspect the bedding is an issue. The plastic stock squirms around pretty good. I'm waiting on a Boyd's rimfire hunter now to see if it helps. FWIW I was also using the 20 gr Winchester ammo. All that was available.

When I bedded mine I filled the first hole in the fore end in completely and then bedded it to the barrel and receiver. It did stiffen the forend. If I did it again I would put a rod in the forend and epoxy it in place to stiffen it even more1`. There isn't really a lot of material to bed to in the stock between the forend and the back of the receiver. If you do bed around the back of the receiver be careful as you could lock the bedding to the trigger group.
