9mm 147gn lead ... Titegroup???

Hey guys,

I have been using redot and unique to reload my 147gn LRN, but now that I can't get alliant powder. I managed to track several lbs of titegroup (don't ask how). I have been reading that it may be too hot for lead though. Does anyone have any experience loading titegroup with 147gn lead.

I found this data on a forum...

Load data shows 2.8 grains 1.169 oal
At 943 fps and 30,300 CUP
9mm Luger with 147 grain lead
From the Lyman cast handbook

But I have no idea about the source. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have 2k in 147gn lead RN... and I have 4lbs of titegroup.

I've loaded thousands of 124/147 with Bullseye but recently switched to Titegroup and 124's.
Depending on whether I'm loading for my pistol or the JR carbine, the loads vary a bit. I've been getting some good results with Bullseye and 147gr XTP's in the carbine.

Now if you find yourself with an excess of Titegroup, let me know ! ;-)

Yeah, it seems a little on the short side, but copied right from their information.
I load all my 9mm to 1.130 as it functions well in either the M&P or the JR.
 
Cabela's Canada has TG with reported $281/8lb shipped price. Stock up! I recently paid $300 for 8lb to my door and considered it a reasonable price.

Lead? I'd say start with 3.4gr with your 147gr lead bullets, OAL will determine PF. Go with as great OAL as your gun's chamber allows given reliable feeding and firing.
1.169" is for the "books", it doesn't matter; I'd be alarmed if your gun calls for OAL below 1.05".

147 gr? Why not. I use 135 gr LRN, 3.2-3.4 with TG. Start with 2.8 gr. I am confident you will achieve good results between 3.0 and 3.2 grs. I got my TG from Le baron. You have to be patient though.
 
too hot for lead?

a pistol powder. a bullet. in a 4.2 to 6 inch barrel. That bullet gets hotter from the friction in the barrel than it does from the powder burn acting on it for a split second.

I've used TG and cast from the start in 9mm ad 45acp. pounds upon pounds uncountable. worry more about running out of the stuff ;)
 
Titegroup is my go to powder for 9 mm using cast and or plated bullets. Check your manuals and have at it.
 
Can you say smoke?

That combo is very smokey, and indoors you could be asked to leave or outdoors you won't see the target for a while on a calm day. I shot a night match in NY (no breeze) and it was bang, blow, blow, blow before I could see the target and take the next shot..
