Ive been thinking about buying a JR Carbine in 9mm for a nice little target gun... I dont want to bother with getting my rpal but wanted something in that style..

Any suggestions on upgrades or add ons to it?

Swap the grip to something more comfortable, the quad-rail to something longer and get some sights or a red dot since it doesn't come with anything, aiming-wise.

Yea don't listen to the negative comments. I picked one up a year and a half ago and is still my favourite gun to shoot. Very accurate, accepts ar15 parts and accessories (for the most part) and allows you the use of 10 round magazines :D. and to the miss informed individual above that said pistol calibre carbines are useless, I beg to differ, they are accurate, reliable, and a I will take a 9mm rifle over a 9mm pistol for home defence any day. Way easier to control for the inexperienced, and far more accurate. Plus 9mm isn't overly expensive.... Yet.

Milspec??? Since the military doesn't use it, how on earth could it ever be "milspec"

I might put a 4x scope on my 45 to see what it can do. I've got it sighted to 50m, mostly for my eyes and irons not working well for anything other than minute of gong much beyond 100m.

It's hilarious to see how high I have to hold over to hit the 200m plate.

As to the utility. Remember that all early repeaters were "pistol calibre carbines" and even rifles. The trajectory and velocity of my 45JR is not much different than that of my father's 44-40 Henry rifle, and no one who knows anything would malign the contribution to posterity made by the 44-40.

I've only played with friends... They seem ok to plink with, reasonably accurate. They do seem to have some issues when guys try to run them at Tac Matches, so I don't think I'd recommend it if that's a consideration.

I have a jr in 9mm. I love it. Cheap to shoot. Non restricted. I added a 13 inch troy battle rail, AR style carry handle, front ramp sight, and 3x9x42 scope. Shoots in a 2 inch circle tight groups at 50 yards. A bit wider at 100 yards. I get winchester ammo 27 bucks per 100 rounds. Nice rifle to play with. You need an AR wrench and one allan key to take it down.

From all JR's, 9mm is probably your best bet. Cheap to shoot, fun and pistol 10 round mags. Also, keep in mind, thanks to that longer than pistol barrel, your bees will be buzzing out at least 150 fps faster than they would have out of a pistol. 9mm JR is also more reliable than the other calibres.

It's really too bad there aren't solidly reliable pistol caliber carbines. They all seem to have at least 1 major flaw.
There are reliable pistols. There are reliable rifles. But no perfect PCCs... and at the price they're commanding it's ridiculous.

well the 5 000$ hk are pretty reliable, do you want to spend 5000$? nobody wants to spend that...

JR Carbine......

Good fun, accurate enough, cheap to shoot, glock mags, reliable, NON RESTRICTED. Whats not to like ?

Slap on a decent red dot sight and you have a great little rifle. Just buy one.
