Bought about 4 years ago. Has always been finicky about ammo.
Pain to field strip, need pliers to turn lever. Hard to put back together.
After a year of moderate use started jam EVERY shot. Would not
feed and would not extract. Did all the voodoo with cleaning,
replacing spring, polishing lip, mag tops, no help. Finally, one day
the slide came apart. You read this right: the slide just fell apart
into two pieces. My faith in German products has been shaken.
Avoid Mosquito and by extension all SIG stuff. On the other hand,
there is an ancient Ruger in the club. Nobody really cleans it,
nobody oils it, yet it eats ANY ammo in any numbers.

This type of slide failure is a common thing with mosquitos, SIG had a recall going on to get them replaced I believe. I'm surprised you never heard about it, it's been discussed in length everywhere online and in gun magazines.

I've sold off Ruger MK's in the past for new Trendy&Kool looking semi's that ended up not running properly and/or failed to last a year of use. Recently went back to a Ruger semi (MKiii series)….won't make that mistake again. YMMV

if you want a real Sig in .22, get a 220 or 226. These are actually using the sale lower that the other calibers.
Mosquitos issues are well known, but you can't claim the same for the rest of their product. I have four different SIG and I never had any issues
The only thing I can complain about with my 220 in 22 is the fact that the slide doesn't lock open on an empty mag.

I had mixed emotions about my Mosquito. Bought it cheap, sold it for what I paid and bought a Ruger Mk3, never looked back.

FWIW, I never had any real issues other than it wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn on a calm day. It only really liked MiniMags, but would cycle most HV ammo. The allen key to remove the front weight sucked because it couldn't be stripped without tools.

I have a broken slide sitting on my Desktop computer to remind me to never buy another SIG product, I got absolutely no help from SIG to repair or replace it as it was "Out of Warrenty" :(

Guess I got lucky with mine, well over 8000 rounds and no real issues.. A few FTF but 9 out of 10 times its the ammo. And I run any and all kind of 22 through it.

You and me both: the one I had is flawless. I sold it to a family member at a loss because it was running, feeding and ejecting so flawless: I wanted them to have the best.

I would not brand their "one lemon" as a company-wide fault. Heck, I've had two Ruger lemons (still own the 10/22), a Tikka lemon, ... doesn't mean I don't own ones that are good.

Mosquitos are NOT made by the same factory where are made all other SIG Sauer P series or 1911.
The factory is of one German contractor located in Ulm NRW where is made also the Walther 22 and GSG 22...all of them using pot metal for slides and MIM parts for internals.
Cheap final product and low quality of metals ...you know the results of using these pistols and why SIG Sauer is not so fast on responding for their contactor mistakes...because some are real bad lemons.

Good morning,

A bit of info for all of you; the Mosquito and 1911-22 line are produced by GSG for Sig. The inconsistency in the metal has been corrected, hopefully eliminating the current problems.

The Mosquito slide issue is well known, and completely covered under warranty. We are currently out of replacement slides; the shipment of slides should be here in a few months.

How does one go about getting a replacement slide? I Must have called half a dozen places after mine broke in 2 places, No help anywhere so I decided to try and fix it myself and it broke in a 3rd place, Documented here

SIG's in general are fine guns. Stay far away from the "Skeeter", though. I smile every time I see one for sale at a gun show because I know someone is about to prove ole P.T. Barnum right one more time.

.

That's a pretty broad statement. I would respectfully disagree.

Please send an email to: sigrepairs@mdcharlton.ca. We will cover the slide for you. The only problem, we are currently out of replacement slides. Hopefully the shipment will arrive before the year is out.
