Due to work related reasons I missed the first three weeks of season and at last my chance came along to get after the ducks and geese. My buddy Jamie from New Hampshire and the Vermont boys showed up for their two weeks of waterfowling adventures and I joined them for a week. We had alot of fun as usual and some great hunts. After that week was over it was back to work on my normal rotation and 10 days later I was again chasing birds for my 4 days off and this time with my best bud Chad, his father in law and two friend's from back home who flew out to join us for a few days hunting. Again we had a great time and the birds were plentiful and co-operative. I could go on and on with details but instead I will just post a whole bunch of pics and let them do the talking........:)

If you are like me and don't get frustrated by how challenging white geese can be you will love it! The harder they are to get the more I want to challenge myself to fool them into range.
 
Using DOA Canadas? If so no better decoy for realism and durability. Looks like some great hunts. Terrain must play a big part as MB is generally so flat that the most minor contour or headland has to be exploited.

Yes we had some good success in the few days I had available so far. Thanks for the compliment on the SX1. I bought it from a fellow CGN'r, it was about as good as I am sure I could get in an original gun nearly 40 years old without finding one NIB. I bought a tune up kit from Wright's for it, replaced and installed all the parts myself and tore the gun down to the last pin with Stu Wright's direction and it is one awesome pointing gun to shoot. There is no comparison to the gun it was to compete with, the 1100! No 1100 ever made even comes close to one of these! I have owned several 1100's and this is my first SX1 but it won't be my last! Now I am addicted, lol!!
 
I'm afraid you're mistaken. They are horrible, horrible guns. Heavy, unreliable, can't shoot steel, no choke tubes, poor build quality, ugly, they stink like a skunk soaked in gasoline and they'll make your retina detach.

Avoid it like the plague if you see one on the EE.

(At least until I buy one.)

Detach your retina?! That explains why I have been tripling on ducks and geese!! Laugh2
 
Yup. Awful guns. The fact that you can triple with your SX-1 is proof that they're awful.

(P.S. Did you do any mods to make it safe for steel?)

Nothing barrel wise as yet. I have an extra 26" Briley choked barrel for it with thin wall chokes( ml25's). All the chokes are lead shot only. Was going to order two VX series titanium chokes for it but for $90 more I can have my original 26" skeet barrel choked by Briley and it comes with 3 VX chokes for steel. My original barrel is much nicer than the spare. I am going to find another decent SX1 and make a matching set. That will give me 3 lead shot and 3 steel shot chokes to swap out between the two guns. I did buy and install a Wrights tune up kit. The kit has a stainless steel mag tube, ss rebound spring and follower, ss hammer spring, neoprene bolt buffer and new o-ring. The original rebound spring follower is aluminum and did not like the two boxes of steel I put through the gun. Beat it up bad but I think it was due to the rebound spring being almost 40 years old and obviously had weakened lots. The gun has seen little use ever but age got the critical parts. I swapped them and it is night and day the difference in performance. The bolt closes with so much authority now the gun jumps in my hand. And it fires and performs beautifully.

Oh and all I am using for waterfowl with it is Federal Speed Shok 2 3/4", 1 1/8 oz #2 & #3. Very mild loads. I spoke with Stu Wright at Wright's in Illinois, he is an SX1 guru. He told me I would have no issues with putting that load through the original WS1 choked barrel and that the SX1 could handle much heavier loads than what I am shooting.
