I find it best if you just don't look at the price on the jug. I need powder to keep shooting so I buy the powders I find in stock that I can use in my rifles and pistols. I have loads developed for more than one powder for each cartridge in case I can't find my favorite.
If you don't live close enough to a Cabela's to pick it up maybe you should get a couple buddies together and make an order from Higginson's once a year like myself and three of my buddies do, last spring we ordered 34 pounds of various powders and had it shipped to me, I then seperated and distributed it between us. I still buy powder when I find it in stock at local stores but ordering one or two pounds at a time when it's as scarce as it has been the last few years is silly. You need to stock up and have some reserves. It isn't hoarding, it's just being smart.
Last week I was in Cabela's South Edmonton and they had Varget so I grabbed 4 pounds. Even if I don't need a certain powder I'll still buy some if I see it in stock and load for cartridges that can use it.
Mr. I won't buy powder for more than $30/pound. You may as well sell your reloading gear because it's going to be forever till you see powder under $30 again. It's called inflation, just like everything else in this greedy gouging world we live in the prices only go up. Adapt or be left behind, it's still cheaper and more accurate than buying factory manufactured ammo.
