I'm curious to see what mounts, rings, optics people are using for their turkey guns. I will post mine within a week from now approx when I get all the parts together...

I use a 12g Remington 870 Express with Cantlever Remington barrel with interchangeable chokes. Obviously I use a turkey choke during turkey seasons (Jelly head). On the cantlever I have mounted a Bushnell Trophey 1.75-4 X 32 shotgun scope.

I used optics on my turkey guns for a number of years and then realized how unnecessary optics are and just use the beaded rib now... IMO, if you are going to use an optic, then a red dot is the way to go... here are a pics that show the guns in them;

OK so I went with UTG M87 saddle mount, UTG QD rings and Bushnell Legend HD 1.75-5x32mm.

I'm running into a problem...My saddle mount protrouds too much and contacts the forearm which doesn't allow me to eject the shells. Should I shave down the forearm or shave down the saddle mount? I'm tempted to shave down the mount since I find the forearm very comfortable as is in hunting situations...

"I used optics on my turkey guns for a number of years and then realized how unnecessary optics are" Quoted for truth. Save yourself some time, $, and energy. I can't think of any advantage an optic brings to turkey hunting. I have passed up many birds over the years but never due to the lack of an optic sight. It's just one more thing that could go wrong or break. The target is a long neck and head, and we are shooting normally less than 40 yds with birdshot. We are not trying to hit a chipmunk at 100yds with a rifle.

I use the same set up for turkeys and deer/slugs, works great for both. With a holosight the pattern's going where the reticle is even if your heads not down on the stock, you have a shot off of the "wrong" shoulder/side etc. Ever miss a bird and don't know why? The right optic can help to reduce some of the common causes for missing. Also, some guns and tight shooting choke combinations don't shoot to point of aim using just a bead.

As promised, here's a pic of my turkey gun before I made modifications to the mount. It now functions fine. I probably could of bought a brand new turkey gun for the price off all these mods but it wouldn't be a 1966 Wingmaster now would it? I can't wait to pattern this in the spring!

I was deer hunting the otherday and a flock of 4 toms strolled through my area. If it wasn't for my rifle scope, it would of been impossible to tell that they were all toms, not a single jake in the group, and one tom even had a double beard visible! I think the scope can come in handy when sizing up the birds.......

I can't wait to put this theory to the test next spring.

So what's the verdict on the Legend HD 1.75-5x32 scopes? They're suposed to be rated for shotguns and have generous 4.5'' eye relief...

Lately I just use a sxs f/m fixed chokes 7 / 8oz #6 shot at 1375fps. I have a gun set up just for turkey but enjoy a nice double more

That's the best part of turkey hunting. You can use such a variety of guns
