Hi
I am looking for advise as to what are good .22 rifles to buy. I am looking for accuracy here. I just bought a CZ 453 American with the set trigger and I really like it. I want to pick up another one and would appreciate to hear from you guys on what another good one would be.

It can be a repeater or semi, the main thing I need is to able to put a scope on it and that it is accurate and functions well.

Thanks for any help on this matter.

I've gartzs a few nice 22 rims including a pair of CZ 452's, a T-Bone, an old Winchester 69A and the sort.
The last new one was a compact Ruger 'Merikan.
Think the world of this little kritter so far and no lacking accuracy.

You should really look into a good used remington 552 speedmaster.
Shoots short long and LR very well and is really impressive with a scope.
It has a tube mag which many dont like but they are actually easier and faster to load.

Or look into a classic browning semi auto .22

If you decide on another bolt action.

Hands down bang for the buck....Savage MarkII FV-SR.

Accu trigger, really accurate...made in Canada.

Do you mean you want something more accurate than your CZ? Better look for an Anschutz match rifle or the like. Possibly a Remington 40X if you can find one.

If you mean another accurate rifle, your choices are numerous. Get a CZ varmint if you want high-volume accuracy without change in POI. Build a Ruger 10/22 from widely available parts if you want a match-grade semi-auto. Keep an eye on the EE for a Winchester 9422 or Marlin 39A if you want an excellent lever action.

The discontinued Weatherby Mark XXII semi-automatic is beautiful, reliable and accurate. Production ended in the mid-1980s, so you'll have to bid for a used one. I purchased mine new in 1967 and would never part with it. Tang-mount scope rings are required. At 100 yards, using a 16x40mm scope from a bench rest, I can write my name !

If you already own a 453, look at the JP striker spring and taking your trigger assembly apart and lightly polish it (or have a gunsmith do it if its uncomfortable for you).

All of the 453s I have owned were all the most accurate RFs I have seen without getting into multi thousand $$ match guns.

Although I dislike the .17hmr, I have a friend that has a Savage bolt action chambered in it, and indoors, scoped, it is very accurate.

if looking for new, buy another CZ, or if you want to step it up a bit, buy a Sako Quad/Anschutz 64 action, if you really want to step it up, then you need a cooper or Anschutz 54 action…..which some sako quads can keep up with.

Good cheap semi is the Marlin 795. I like mine and it is quite accurate.
In bolt action, I'd probably go with a Mark II heavy barrel variant. I have an older Lakefield that fills my bolt action void.
Single shot, I have a Chiappa Little Badger. Nice backpacker, and also accurate.

That's a nice step up and one I'd consider but pricey

unless I want to blow some serious money ... (but I can't say I was not tempted)

In my not-always-rational-mind, spending good $$ on a 22lr is one of the easiest thing to rationalized: The cost per/bang is always the lowest.

In corner A) A nice 30-06 hunting rifle... $2,500
- Will most likely see a box or two of ammunition a year... For argument sake, lets say 50 rds. Over a 10 year period ( the average time it seems to take me to decide whether or not I really like a gun), that will be 500 rds.
That works out to $5 per bang (notwithstanding the ammunition)

In corner B) A nice 22lr hunting rifle... Again $2,500
- While I wish I spent more time at the range... seems like the average is a brick per year per rifle. So that rifle over a 10 year period will have gone through 5,000 rounds
That works out to 50 cents per bang... and the more I use it, the cheaper it becomes!

That's my logic, and I'm sticking to it :p
